If not EndeavourOS, what distro would you be using?

Honestly I’d use Garuda.

If arch + all derivatives disappeared I’d use Fedora.

I want to try sabayon if i get a laptop someday

Nix has the calamares installer now. It is pretty easy to give it a go.

Though I can’t imagine there is no EOS, after almost a year of distro hopping there are quite a few that I really liked and enjoyed, but each is with its cons:

  • Manjaro (but… )
  • Artix (was amazing, but an update broke the system, so I dropped it)
  • Porteus (Slackware based, run from RAM, but hardware support! not a rolling release)

So, for now I would be using EOS or Manjaro, but where can I find a community like here? I couldn’t find!

My first install of Gentoo took a week to compile. It was a fun/great learning experience. After probably 6 months of that, I went Sabayon (Gentoo w/o the compiling). Then Arch came along and I have not turned back since, except for Arm based systems only being supported by Armbian.

Probably something Debian based for me. I don’t even mind buntu…

I gave up too fast  even if I managed to reach SwayWM with networking by compiling for ~3 hours. I was worried about CPU temperatures, though.

Gentoo always appeals to my nerd, however I’m not convinced the reality with meet expectations.

If it ain’t, don’t fix it. Works for me @ricklinux

I’ve tried most distro’s and then some. The reason I like EndeavourOS is because it’s rolling and it’s Arch. I like having the latest kernels. I am not an lts kernel user. I don’t believe in needing to use an lts kernel if you have newer hardware. If there is a specific case where i would need to i would install it. I’m waiting for EndeavourOS 5.0

Perhaps your mirrors are out of sync

:sunglasses:

I would seriously consider Garuda, I usually end up doing the zen kernel and timeshift and adding Steam anyway. I’m not sure if I can look those Candy icons in the face though.

Seems like it’s a big jump in “stuff” between Endeavour and Garuda though doesn’t it?

No. Nixos has a substantial learning curve due to it’s declarative nature, non-standard filesystem and immutable elements.

It is really interesting and powerful but it is probably not like any other Linux you have ever used.

Nixos has never been particularly hard to install. The issue is what happens after you install.

A new user using Calamares to install Nixos is just accelerating them into the learning curve wall at a higher speed.

Do you recommend first trying out the nix package manager in :enos: and then try out NixOS?

That must only be on Gnome?

This gamerlook also has a deterrent effect on me. And the fact that it is already ootb a bunch of colorful garbage.

I think that if this case should ever occur, I will rather try to come to terms with Manjaro …

EOS has version numbers?!
