Fiat owns Iveco, Ducato was the namee Fiat used for their small vans before they renamed their trucks and medium vans to Iveco.
So the Ducato stayed with the name Fiat.
But yes other like citreon etc use The Fiat vans as they don’t have the resources any more to produce them at the moment.

They are the same as the UK versions that are running a few years now.

Yes, I wonder too how and where FIAT got so much money from. They even bought Chrysler or some US autoproducer. I guess that’s why the fukn ProMaster is also just a Ducato in disguise. My fave van is and was the Transit, even if the Ducato comes in even more variants.

Somehow, although I’m German, I don’t like the Sprinter. It’s too narrow and only available as Diesel afaik. I hate Diesel. Particularly Mercedes, you need a university degree to repair those, and I am reliant on jungle mechanics.

Yes, Vauxhall are as broke as the Frenchies, so they need to build under licence from FIAT/Iveco.

I worked in the 70s for Ford and in the 90s for Merc, Merc was in them days the better built but slower vehicles but the sprinter changed that big time. You are right Merc vans are Diesel only.
For years Ford Europe was propping up Ford USA to stop them from going bust everything is not always as it seems at one time 9 out of 10 vans in the UK were Transits 90% of cars were Ford, VW took the market over with its lies with diesel emissions now we find Merc could of been doing the same .
Ford gave up with producing its own diesel engines in the 90s and were using PSA engines from Peugeot do not know if they still do,Europe is in a such a mess trying to dominate the world markets, They stole Ford Europe from the UK but had no interest in the Transit at the time

I think all motor manufactures are struggling they have a shrinking market they are over priced by almost 50%. Now they are also struggling with going electric.

Friend of ours in Germany, he had a Transit Mk 1 2.5 l diesel, which was built not in Cologne but in Gent, Belgium. Didn’t they use Peugeot Diesel motors back then already?

Well, I don’t think all motor manufacturers are struggling. FIAT seems to do very well, VAG, Mercedes, Porsche, BMW are swimming in the moolah. Passenger cars, mind you. The market for transporters and small commercial vehicles on the other hand is ruinous and works on small margins. Is what I hear. And that’s why so many competitors have ganged up and selling the same FIAT Ducato van under many different names. Even on the other side of the pond. But who cares about what happens over there? They’re gonna implode soon enough. :expressionless:
