I have a Dell XPS 13. Most of the time, I walk away and it goes to sleep. When I get back, it wakes up on a key press. But every so often, and with no discernible pattern, it won’t wake up and I have to hard reboot.
What logs can I look at to see if there are obvious errors? Is there a better way to figure out what’s going on so I can look into preventing it?
Hiiii! Welcome to the circus! journalctl -b -r -1
will show you logs from previous session (before reboot), with latest at the top. Also sudo dmesg
is your friend,
Post output of inxi -bz
Thank you, will check journalctl next time it happens.

Your BIOS firmware is super old. Update it first, and see if it will help
I have been computering for 30+ years and have never updated BIOS firmware. Always something new to learn. Thanks for the help

Of course it hasn’t done it since @gladykov answered but I DID update my BIOS.
