I’ve been using i3 for the last few months but I miss some of the creature comforts of KDE. How do I switch back to KDE as it comes out of the EOS box without doing a clean install? I’d like to keep all of my data and installed apps if possible.
eos-packagelist --install KDE-Desktop
I’ve done that but I still boot into i3. Do I need to configure anything else?
Try: sudo systemctl enable --force sddm
Reboot.
When you get back to the login screen, you should be able to choose your login session at the bottom left.
In your display manger/login manager you will have to chose the plasma desktop when you login.
This worked, however I can’t do anything at the KDE login screen. My mouse and keyboard don’t work.
Switch back to lightdm
following the same pattern in the command line above.
See if your mouse and keyboard works there.
You should be able to type/choose your username and then from a menu ( a gear icon?) choose the session you want to log into.
OK so switching back to lightdm and selecting KDE at the login screen works. I’m going to try switching back to sddm now and see what happens.
OK, so I booted to a terminal, switched back to lightdm and picked KDE on the i3 login. The mouse and keyboard worked, so I re-enabled sddm, rebooted and the mouse and keyboard have worked ever since. Not sure if it was a driver issue?
