How to make my sound card detected?

Do you not have any sound from the headset either?

Edit: You could try the following in

/etc/modprobe.d/dsp.conf

add

options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1

I have sound from my headset. It is working perfectly.

It didn’t worked. The file wasn’t existing so I created it. I tried to add the line as follow as well (with dashes instead of underscores). I restarted my computer each time. Nothing other than HDMI and headset as output still.

options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1

Just a quick question. Are your headphones unplugged when you are trying to use the on board sound card?

My Razer USB headset? I tried to test while it’s connected and disconnected. Same thing. No sound card output shown in pavucontrol.

I have a AMD Ryzen rig. In my UEFI settings, there is an entry in Advanced\South Bridge Configuration:

Onboard HD Audio (Enabled or disabled)
Front Panel (HD or AC 97)

Have you checked your UEFI settings for any audio settings?

Pudge

I am not using UEFI, that is an old Dell computer.

Guys, anyone got some other ideas to look at?

Which is what?

Does it work under any Linux distro? Or any OS?

What i would suggest is try some other distro’s with a live usb and see if the sound works and try to get the hardware info on the sound card. Is it an Intel sound chip? or other?

This is a Dell Optiplex 980 with Realtek ALC269 chipset.

Yes, it is working with Xubuntu and Windows 10.

It is a Realtek ALC269 chipset.

You could try adding the following to

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

ADD

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

I created the file as it was not existing. I rebooted.

Unfortunately, no sound from that damn jack! :frowning:

Same thing shown by pavucontrol.

Maybe run the alsa script to try to figure out what’s going on?

It’s complicated with alsa and pipewire maybe you could also try jack audio as it allows you to make some changes to audio inputs and outputs. :man_shrugging:

OMG! :relieved:

Sorry guys :cold_sweat: but this is my fault. I messed around in my BIOS the other day. I just checked quickly a few minutes ago and found that ‘Audio’ was uncheck under ‘System Configuration → Miscellaneous Devices’. Duh…

So it’s clear now that I did that change (by error) AFTER booting in Windows 10 using the audio…

So sorry again for wasting your time.

At least I know now that you are here to help, that the EndeavourOS community is really alive! :sunglasses:

Thank you! :grinning:
Jonathan

That’s funny because i was just going to ask if you had onboard audio enabled in the Bios.

So is Pipewire required or not after all? Well I installed it the other day…

Yes pipewire is the default now on the latest ISO.

Ok, so that’s a good thing that I thought I had a real problem… LOL Because I found that Pipewire was not installed. So without it I would have had no sound?
