Guys, my new laptop has 6 built in speakers, but I can’t make them work.
When I select analog stereo duplex as sound output, I have only two speakers to select from, left and right. These work.
When I switch to Digital Surround 5.1 ( IEC958/AC3) I can see all 6 speakers, but the output is mute.
Any ideas how to make the surround sound work?

Could you provide you laptop’s brand and model number please (often printed underneath)?
It’s a XMG PRO17, Model XPR17E19, based on a Clevo PB71EF barebone.
Is it this one?

No, mine’s a precessor, coming with an Intel i8750h processor and a Nvidia rtx 2070 max q gpu.

I guess what I’m seeking for, is what makes you believe it supports 5.1 surround? It may, I’m just not personally aware of a laptop that does. Is there a product page we can confirm against?
If it’s the presence of 6 speakers, that alone doesn’t qualify 5.1 surround. That might simply mean 3 different sized speakers for left channel and 3 different sized speakers for right channel stereo.
Hi Jeannie, what’s the font you are using? It looks great.
The font is called Sony Sketch EF and is available in the aur.
Great, thanks Jeannie
I suspect that list has more to do with what your audio controller is capable of, than what your inbuilt speakers are capable of.
Just as an example, I have a pair of stereo headphones plugged into a stereo output jack. I too, can select “Digital Surround 5.1” from the dropdown list. But as neither my headphones, nor that stereo output jack can handle “Digital Surround 5.1”, I get no audio output.
