Help keeping Android Open and Free

We’ve seen what happened with computers, most of them delivered with Windows for decades.
It’s the same with Android, but installing an alternative OS on a smartphone needs a bit more technical knowledge than installing Linux on a computer.

edit: and smartphones with alternative OS already installed is a niche market

Major brands, like Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, they offer screencasting and desktop modes, various labels are Miracast, Easy Projection, Dex. With a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you just turn that phone or tablet into a functional mini PC, since you can install Linux onto Android with Termux, you either use the software repos for Linux or you use Android apps or you use web apps. Rumors say, Google is working to turn Android into a desktop system with and for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips. I suspect that this has bnen always a dream version, that waited for nanometer scales and thermal engineering only achieved in around 2020 to 2023. The newer laptops are going to be thin and “alluring” to a predominantly female (and snob) audience … with Android PC OS. Samsung Galaxy Books are examples of that, shitty performance but good looking.

There are both chunky females and chunky snobs (and even chunky female snobs)

Is there a hint of misogyny in more off topic newspeak from the lord and master of Organic Intelligence?

TIL we can’t have good linux phones because of females

The essence of the telephone game.

To the semantics allergic folks and newspeakers: hope you won’t get a rash

Breaking: Google is easing up on Android’s new sideloading restrictions!

TL;DR

Google is working to make it easier for ‘experienced users’ to install apps made by unverified developers.

The company is building a new ‘advanced flow’ that allows these users to accept the risks of installing unverified apps.

Previously, the only permitted method for experienced users to install apps from unverified developers was to use ADB.

I bet this will be annoying too. They will come up with some restrictions, like re-enabling it every week or something.

It’s funny, when they talk about protecting users from scams, when I see news regularly about malicious apps on the play store. People have been bypassing their verification system since day 1, it’s not going to change anything. You can just give some guy on the street 20$ and register your account with his face or get some fake ID, I bet there are many clever ways of bypassing these verifications.

I guess they really need that 25$ at google.

Tomorrow

where the monitor isn’t the AiO computer but the tablet or phone is, with Android as desktop-mode OS, wireless screencasting, monitors are stationary at home or library.

Then

More evidence for turning phones and tablets into fullfledged desktop PCs: Android/ChromeOS is going to support Windows apps out of the box.
