Hi folks, just wanted to introduce myself quick and say hi. I am Marcus from Germany. I work with audio professionally and just have enough of Windows. Bought myself 6 books on Linux and Iḿ ready to dive in. Tried a few distros, Mabox was cool but as a newbie I failed to set up audio interface - pipewire etc. Didn´t like Mint and Ubuntu and Manjaro neither.
Someone recommended EOS to me and as an absolute beginner I didn´t expect to find my way around in the “closest thing to arch” and “terminal oriented” distro.
Funny, exactly here I was able to install and set up everything I need in no time without help! Awesome! Iḿ here to stay.
All the best to you folks!
I was a bit worried about this at first but have found it easier and have learnt way more. This forum is also pretty great place to learn about things too.
Please don’t hesitate to ask if you encounter any problem using your shiny new system!
As you probably have seen already, people are willing to help, and in a friendly way.
Hi @elmarquez Welcome to the Forum from the UK. I have been on Linux (Permanently that is) for three months now and probably tried out close to 10 distros before that. And it has been perfectly fine for me so far with no issues.
You are more prepared than me with the books, don’t forget to check out some of the guides here on the Forums, as there could be specific information relating to this OS and arch. There is also the Arch wiki but i haven’t been there too often. And of course free to ask for help here in the forums, I’m not an expert but I will try to help if I can or learn when someone else replies to you.
Hello @elmarquez and welcome to EndeavourOS and the forum.
Edit:
I also switched from Windows 11 to EndeavourOS a few months ago and I don’t regret this step. There are a few disadvantages here and there (e.g. games, you sometimes have to look for alternatives to the programs you were previously using) but nothing major.
Hi shadow359, youŕe right but in my case no disadvantages at all. I use a PS for games (more a convenient thing as I prefer to hang in the sofa) and all the software I need for work runs on Linux as well. And If I wanted I could run some Win VST plugins via Wine/Yabridge etc. so Iḿ fully covered.
Good to have you with us, - music production in Linux is slowly getting easier, hopefully you have what you need, - and if not, just ask, there’s a wealth of experience here in so many areas! Happy travels!
Hi. I’ve been running EOS for a while now, and have been slowly moving away from Ubuntu. I just signed up here a few minutes ago. Time to look around and see what happens here.
