TL;DR - Laptop not automatically switching to plugged-in headphones, certain apps not making sound when using Analog Stereo, at least 2 GUI flaws regarding switching playback devices, and systemctl not bothering to detect & configure listed units.
1.) When first plugging my headphones into my laptop’s audio jack, it does not automatically become the used playback device, and I can’t access the headphones through the system tray’s audio widget. I’m forced to open System Settings to change the port to Headphones. However, it is labelled as “unplugged” no matter what.
2.) Testing the audio works for both sides when using either the Analog Stereo or Pro Audio profiles. The second problem happens with the former, where audio does not play for the headphones in some applications. For example, playing media in LibreWolf does not give sound, whereas other apps like LMMS does. Whatever causes this to happen, at least Pro Audio works for both of these apps, though for some reason I’m unable to choose a playback device when using Pro Audio, forcing me to switch to Analog Stereo for that.
I have tried to troubleshoot problem 1 through 5.1.2 in the PipeWire page in the ArchWiki, already created the listed .conf file which switches to newly connected devices automatically, but attempting to restart the pipewire-pulse.service unit says it is not found nor loaded, even though systemctl --user says it is loaded, active and running.
Other things I did was running sudo alsactl restore multiple times, setting Pro Audio as the default output device in pavucontrol, and running systemctl --user restart pipewire for a few times. They helped a bit, but problems stil persist.
Perhaps there is a package I should install that will auto-switch to headphones for me, as I’ll stick to Pro Audio from now on. Or was I supposed to do something with the sinks? Let me know if my issue also involved bugs and what I should do to report those as well soon. thanks
