Have you ever been EXCITED by a Linux distro?

I get excited When I get money from no where other than that not much to get excited about these days.

@UncleSpellbinder It’s nice to see that your happy. After all that is all the Excitement one needs

Excited for Ubuntu new release and keep formatting my machine every 6 months until I realize how stupid I am for doing that regularly…for 6 years!

Is a different way of telling that it intrested me from the point i start reading about it en try learning yes for sure ,also from that point many years ago already (from the end off windows7) i started using GNU/Linux distro’s LMDE whas my first ,then used arco-linux and that changed me to get close to arch becaus off the most ways possible to use all what i wanted and the way i wanted ,my pc whill always run eos as long as possible… my laptop also run eos but sometimes i have the feeling for trying an other distro becaus is old laptop and i canot do the same things on eos as my pc does, but then again am thinking as few times already any other distro canot offer me what eos does for work with the same hardware it has … 4gb ram is not enough these days (for my way of using the pc / laptop) not more upgradeble so either am stuck with the option i have whit that laptop or maybe i try some other and find the one distro is fit for doing the same things… not 100% about that and maybe never will be  but for main os always will be eos on my pc for sure :100: also will for ever be so thankfull for this eos and the comminity the whole concept becaus this is exactly what i need and like so wonderfull “bigg thanks go out for all the people whos are here and for making this possible” from my  this i say (edit) is not realy on topic i guess ,so sorry for that and i dont’t even know what this meaning < > **UncleSpellbinder**Wombat Bear with me; there is no TLDR

but anyway like i say many times in different topic … one side from me always will be noob

I get excited. . . but now mostly relieved knowing that ‘Bill’s’, Windoze is no longer the only viable option on the block.

Windoze destroyed itself by it’s own ‘capitalist’ notion that put money making, ridiculous ‘EULA’s’, ahead of users with their needs for a system to convert, and or subvert hardware manufacturers into this ‘new world order’ they ordained as their ultimate controlling frontier.

The needs of the many outweighs the greed of the few who would hold us captive and hostage to our money and our computers. Linux has been the answer for those of us ‘enlightened’ and not afraid to understand and use this technology.

My hat is off for the entire Linux community for enduring the struggle and understanding that we ‘the people’ are looking for better computing alternatives that satisfy ‘our needs’ and wants, and not the hordes of ‘capitalist’ money makers who have little or no compassion for the rest of us.

Rich

I get exited everyday hoping that today is going to be that day when larger organizations drop Windows and turn to linux. I wish school boards would take the plunge and implement them into the classroom environments instead of using Windows and Android! They could still keep Windows as their main deployment in the work environments.

I was excited by Linux Mint back in 2009 when I realised that (after a few years of trying but not sticking with SUSE, Ubuntu etc) Linux could fully replace Windows in meeting my computing needs

That excitement lasted 2 years until GNOME 3 appeared and upset the apple cart :scream:

I’d stuck with Mint for those first two years, but my distrohopping started then and never really stopped  What caused my excitement to dissipate was the feeling that every time I tried a distro or DE, I was trying to avoid or workaround shortcomings.

Endeavour :enos: gave me some excitement again with its very customisable installer and user_pkglist.txt which gave me close to the system I wanted without having to debloat and mitigate :+1:

That’s unlikely to happen while Windows is the most used OS in business. Linux is unlikely to become the most used OS in business while students are being taught Windows.

I, to, have grown to love the terminal and some TUI apps. Not to the point where I delete graphical apps, tough. For system and app updates, I only use the terminal. I really don’t like relying on GUI apps for updating. A big turn-off for me.

That’s something that really never crossed my mind. I installed Artix OpenRC via the live KDE Plasma ISO using the offline choice. I may attempt the “Arch way” of installing Artix on my Samsung Galaxy Book Pro, currently not in use.

I couldn’t agree more!

Indeed. The Linux community in general is something Windows/Mac simply does not have. I love the Linux community, and the EOS community is second to none.

Same boat here. I don’t hate GNOME 3, but GNOME 2 still has my heart. :slightly_smiling_face:

Excited by a distro? No..

Excited by a desktop environment..? Definitely.

Nine times out of ten, when people say they’re distro hopping, they’re actually wanting to DE hop. Finding a DE that genuinely clicks with how your brain works, - that’s where the endorphin rush hits, and respectfully, I think that’s partly what you’re saying..

Come to think of it, I agree with you. The only reason I tried PCLinuxOS and Lindows before Ubuntu was because of their nice-looking blue desktops.

Perhaps initially. But I’ve been using KDE Plasma for years now. And I have had no interest in switching. And I have no interest at all in tiling window managers. So, at least in my case, it’s been a distro thing, not a DE thing.

Nowadays, the only thing that gets me excited is checking for updates and finding a package that fixes a bug or issue I’ve been dealing with.

…that, and knowing I’ve got enough time for a good, well-deserved nap.

I have a triple-boot Arch-Fedora-Debian, all with GNOME 50-50-48 ().

They all look and feel almost exactly the same

They all do exactly what I want and need.

All that said, sometimes I enter a light Panic Mode when the terminal says "bash: pacman not found). Then I frenetically try apt or dnf till I get it right

A little bit of EXCITEMENT.

Oh, definitely.

That honor goes to EndeavourOS. But it also worked as a gateway to experimenting different distros and also reminding me, why I like Debian and Debian -based ones.

But I think that in the end the truth behind the truth is that OS in general is not the one that should be the exciting thing, but the one that’s used to do exciting things.

me too. I found two that excite me now (eos and solus) and my journey started in 2017. Lots of turds out there but this combo does it for me. Yep, have been excited.

Congrats for you

edit: ps-- there can never be too much nerd

I was excited when I was using Antergos but I got really excited when EOS first started and I haven’t found anything that excites me more. Nothing is more exciting than using a distro that just works and is rolling!

Yes, for some reason, I feel so excited after installing endeavor today! I know it might sound stupid and childish, but I felt atrracted to it because of its logo, colours and name. Yes, I am autistic lol (really my diagnosis) so I tend to get excited about totally random details. But just the visual part feels like it matches my personality for some reason. You know when you go somewhere for the first time and you feel like you belong there? Or seeing someone for the first time and its like you’ve known them for ages? Thats how I felt after booting Endeavour for the first time

Also, seeing this wonderful old school fórum brings me joy! Ive been missing traditional forums so much!
