Has anyone tried out Nyarch Linux?

To quote Marshall McLuhan, the medium is the message. For example, which target would you rather shoot at: differently-colored concentric rings, or an image of a politician?

One can’t really say “Ignore the catgirl and her association with a certain subculture” and expect first-time users to happily go along with it.

I’m fine with these distros being available. But I won’t choose to use one.

“For those of you who get your entertainment from Crunchyroll, may I present to you the new Arch distro Crunchysock!”

I think the point he was trying to make is that the distro is well done for those who it is targeted to. Not that people who it isn’t targeted to should use it anyway.

For example, it isn’t for me. I am not the target audience. I would not use it as my daily driver. However, I can still look at it and say “Hey, this is a pretty impressive accomplishment”.

Arch with Anime characters? Don’t see the infatuation with it.

I did not either wake up with that burning desire and blood pumping in the veins saying “goddam now this is how I like my Arch.”

The only time I get this feeling is when I think of installing Arch The Arch Way

I swear I must have heard about this project on r/unixporn.
Almost 2/3 posts there (if not more) consist of typical scheme “Arch + some kind of Wayland compositor + weeb aesthetics”.

It looks impressive, but I’m not the target audience, so there’s a “no” from me.

Well, I find the distro appealing and quite interesting. Maybe it’s because I like/love anime, who knows. But GNOME isn’t really my thing, and I don’t want an AI assistant either. Maybe I’ll try it out on a laptop without permanent internet access, who know.

Thank you @emk2203!

Just a minute. Anything? I mean any Anything? And that too with a privacy friendly ethos?

I just installed Nyarch Linux on an old Thinkpad T410. The installation went smoothly. Unfortunately, unlike the EndeavourOS “online” installation, the installer does not download the latest packages.

After restarting, I wanted to update first, which worked, but I had to renew the Archlinux keyring first.

After that, everything went smoothly and the reboot went without a hitch. You can definitely tell that the developers have put a lot of effort and work into it. What I don’t like so much is that quite a lot of things are pre-installed; I prefer EndeavourOS in that respect.

I haven’t tested the Catgirl Downloader, Waifu Downloader, or the “AI Assistant” yet.

I don’t know yet if Nyarch Linux will stay on my laptop.

Okay, both downloaders work without any problems. You can allow NSFW content or not. But I’d better not share any pictures of it.

With the AI assistant, you can select different LLMs, including a local model, but that doesn’t work due to the very old hardware. The demo mode works without any problems, but it is limited to 10 requests.

Edit:

I think I’ll take another look at the distro when it has KDE Plasma. At least, that’s what the developers are planning as a spin in the future.

Unfortunately, I really don’t get along with Gnome.

Gnome is a nonstarter for me so I’ll wait for a KDE Plasma version.

But it’s infected with AI! :warning: Spend too much time with it, and you’ll start posting nonsense on this forum
