It isnât necessarily a political thing when a country celebrates a holiday. Or its own independence.
Based upon your logic, even the Olympic games or the current World Cup within North America would be politically motivated, as the athletes are representing their home country. And are competing against other nations. Which doesnât make it an war.
I donât see anything wrong when a US-citizen wishes his fellows an happy independence day. To me itâs just a regular day and it doesnât bother me. In fact, I wouldnât have replied here.
I donât think my OP is political. BUT, there was a post flagged above that could have been viewed as political. And no, it was not me who flagged it.
Just sayin, keeping this topic politics-free would be appreciated. 
Some people just wanna connect with other people through this forum. Whatâs so wrong about that exactly? I fail to see how this is any more political than any of the other threads here that discuss pressing economic topics, or AI or derail into trans and gay rights discussions. There was a thread like a week ago where some shared a Gamersâ Nexus video literally about how shit the economy is, also just to connect with people.

And if an American Independence Day post is âpoliticalâ in your eyes, where were your âpoliticalâ concerns here, then?

- I fail to see how a Canada Day celebration, a form of Canadian independence differs at all from American independence celebrations.

The politics started when @rich52âs post got flagged.
Apparently by someone deeming it to be political. Or expressing an opinion not easy for some people to swallow.
Thatâs how I see it.

I think both interpretations can coexist.
My impression is that the original intent was simply to wish a happy national holiday to those celebrating it, not to start a political discussion. At the same time, I can also understand why, in an international forum, some people may see any national independence celebration as having a political dimension.
Neither interpretation seems unreasonable to me, and I donât think anyone necessarily had bad intentions.
Perhaps this is simply one of those topics that is difficult to keep completely separate from politics, regardless of how it starts.
In any case, weâre all here because of our shared interest in Linux. Letâs keep the discussion respectful, assume good faith, and not let a holiday greeting turn into an argument.
