GRUB acts differently on different devices?

Hi there!

I installed EOS on my PC and later on my laptop as well.

Whenever I start my desktop PC and GRUB loads up, there’s a countdown at the bottom of the screen indicating that the currently selected OS will boot once the timer runs out. My laptop, however, does not have this. I always have to press Enter to select and boot. What gives? Is there a way to set it on my laptop as well?

Check the setting GRUB_TIMEOUT in /etc/default/grub on the machine that waits forever for keyboard input.

As a fellow newbie I use the grub editor GUI. It’s a very newbie friendly way of editing everything in your grub, from the font, colors, background image, and yes even the timer

This is not a GUI to configure grub. This is a custom bootloader using grub.

Be aware to think it will act and work in the same way.

I think he may be referring to this:

With config backup, nice.

ah this indeed sounds better to me:

grub-editor

GUI application to manage grub configuration

It workes by editing the /etc/default/grub

looks really nice… now i need to install EndeavourOS with Grub to check it

Also onto doing a KCM module for it:

Unfortuately that seems to be identical to the machine that counts down just fine. The only difference between the two files is in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT value.

This is the grub config from the laptop that waits for ever

That looks fine. Try regenerating the Grub configuration file, and paste the output into the thread.

sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
