Grub 2:2.06.r322.gd9b4638c5-1 won't boot and goes straight to the BIOS after update

hmm my be rescue grub help I don’t try

I think the Endeavour team might want to look at the grub-tools package.

I have been playing with EndeavourOS virtual machines. UEFI installs.

I have reproduced the following multiple times.

If I remove grub-tools before updating the grub package, the system will reboot normally. If I don’t remove grub-tools before updating grub, the system fails to boot (boots to BIOS screen).

The specific steps I took:

I did an offline install, then updated everything but ignored the grub package. Rebooted, and ran an update (which only updated grub), and the reboot failed - it booted to the BIOS screeen.

Repeat the same thing but first remove the grub-tools package. Rebooted, then updated the grub package. Worked fine, rebooted into the system.

Again, I have reproduced these results multiple times.

Just letting you know.

And this is likely why my Arch installs updated without problems - grub-tools is an Endeavour package.

Like I said - the Endeavour team might want to take a look at their grub-tools package.

@Stagger_Lee
I have an installl of Arch. It is dual boot with Windows. Should i try updating it? I don’t think it has grub-tools installed on it.

grub-tools is an Endeavour package, so unless you added the Endeavour repo and then the package, no, an Arch install won’t have grub-tools.

don’t yay now You be safe

Hello sir, I just faced this grub error after last night update and overcome it successfully. I am on Endeavour KDE and this is my daily working machine with no dual boot. So could you tell me how can I enable systemd-boot for more stability in grub?

No it’s Arch so I’ll give it a go. I also have another laptop with EndeavourOS and Windows dual boot. I will also try it after uninstalling grub-tools. I also have another desktop with EndeavourOS on Nvidia that is dual boot with Windows. So i will also uninstall grub-tools and update it.

Got no errors with grub-install.
Rebooted

Can I install rEFInd and still use Btrfs Assistant and grub-btrfs?

How to install in place of grub?

Thanks.

Not to discredit any grub-tools theories. However, the grub boot issue with 2:2.06.r3222* has been seen elsewhere in other distros, and these are unlikely to be EOS or with the EOS grub-tools package:

Arch bbs threads so far:

Others:

There are likely additional posts and threads since I looked several hours ago and made this short list. Obviously more users will be doing -Syu updates in the coming days/weeks/months and likely hit this, unless a newer grub package is released.

What ever the issue is with grub i have just uninstalled grub-tools on 5 machines and they all updated with no problems booting. These are all dual boot and or triple boot with rEFInd using grub. My Arch install i updated with no issues.

Edit: I arch-chrooted on the first machine originally when this issue surfaced and i downgraded grub which was no problem. I have since uninstalled grub-tools and updated and it is fine.

i get you but if you on bios screen you cant only power off

Yes, but the number of people having issues on other distros seems to be far smaller than the number of Endeavour users who are having problems.

Also, at least the first poster in the Arch thread you mention had a different issue, as the computer could still boot into Arch.

And look at what XeroLinux have in their repo:
