Grrrr - network switch died (recommendations!)

It wasn’t expensive, it was, connected to an ero and ran a (ancient) wd mycloud (early 2000s) and my partner’s Panasonic smart speaker, which will not connect to the wifi (again fairly old - 7-8 years old).

Never had a switch die before, it is in the most inconvenient place for an old crip like me, but checked all the cables and everything works plugged to the router.

It was a TP-Link 5 port unmanaged, any one got any recommendations? Or should I go with Amazon reviews?

If you are getting an unmanaged switch, it doesn’t matter much. Pick a known network brand and check the throughput stats and make sure it isn’t totally limited. Other than that, there isn’t much to it.

If you get into smart managed or managed switches it gets more complicated.

I have unmanaged switches from netgear, tp-link, linksys, etc. They all work fine and do what they are supposed to do.

Eeros are a pain, they only have one port, never need a switch before as the old router had adequate ports for my limited needs.

Eeors are best suited for someone who is 100% wireless. They are super easy but they only do what they do.

True, just wish the installers would have put it somewhere sensible (I was at work when it was installed) but it is what it is!
