Google Chrome continuously crashes on KDE Plasma

I don’t use Chrome, but Firefox instead. I also had some irregular crashes. Mostly when I clicked on an image which then enlarged. It was actually due to a KDE setting. I had used a different mouse pointer than Breeze pointer, back to Breeze pointer and no more crashes for two days. Fingers crossed. Maybe it will help you.

Thank you for the additional info. However, I didn’t change the default EOS KDE settings. The only change is the accent colors matching the current wallpaper (changed by Variety periodically)… maybe that one…

However, if such settings lead to crash applications then KDE has serious problems

Isn’t variety a wallpaper changer?

Normally it shouldn’t be

There are some python dependencies. Do you have everything up to date?

Yes it’s a wallpaper changer and everything is up to date. Btw, variety is also in the Sway installation where chrome doesn’t crash.

This is really strange. As I said, I don’t use chrome. I’m afraid I can’t help you any further

Since yesterday, I have watched several hours of streaming videos on different sites with Chromium on KDE Plasma. Not a single crash.

Looks like not an issue with chromium-based on KDE in general but an issue of some specific configuration/misconfiguration on OP’s system.

I suggested above and do it again. A new fresh user account and one customization/configuration at a time while testing the browser may pinpoint the issue.

Yes, I’ll try that later :crossed_fingers:

I tried with a brand new user, same Chrome settings (synchronized): never experienced a crash in several hours.

I went back to my original user and removed (unpinned) Chrome from the panel: never experienced a crash in several hours! I even reverted to use hardware acceleration and ozone to default.

Tomorrow I’ll also try to apply the same “solution” to my other computer.

The mysteries of KDE… :face_with_raised_eyebrow: :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Of course, after sending the message, Chrome has “finally” crashed…

I give up… let’s wait for package updates…

KDE has the possibility to change wallpapers randomly. So you don’t need Variety in that case. Just wanted to mention.
