GIMP 3.0 running poorly on nvidia gpu

As the title states, the new GIMP update runs absolutely abhorrently no matter where I install it from. it doesn’t show massive CPU or GPU usage but it is practically unusable. However, on my arch laptop, GIMP 3.0 works flawlessly, although I have a Nvidia GPU in the laptop as well. I am unsure as to if it’s the fault of the Nvidia drivers, as I am unsure if it is running with the Nvidia GPU on my laptop as nvidia-smi only outputs the usr/lib/xorg directory with 4mb of usage.

I would appreciate some support regarding this, as it still makes no sense to me as to why gimp runs worse than my 2015 laptop with an infinitely worse cpu and gpu, and I have been unable to figure out the cause of the poor performance, even going through the process of editing config files for gimp to enable hardware acceleration and whatnot, which made no difference.

I’m not familiar with the specific issue, but perhaps you might try clearing/renaming the config and starting Gimp fresh.

With Gimp closed already, run:

mv ~/.config/GIMP ~/.config/GIMP.backup

I don’t think it’s your GPU’s fault, and I’m not sure if it’s a driver fault either. If you use fractional scaling, try to set it to 100% and open GIMP, maybe it’s an interface bug?
