Hi, just installed the system and tried to update packages but with no luck…
I get these errors:
:: Starting full system upgrade...
:: Replace hwids with core/hwdata? [Y/n] Y
resolving dependencies...
looking for conflicting packages...
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: jack2 and pipewire-jack are in conflict
AUR update check:
:: Searching AUR for updates...
-> Missing AUR Packages: hwids
there is nothing to do
Thank you very much for your welcome, I have pasted your line to the terminal but unfortunately, still getting the same error.
:: Starting full system upgrade...

looking for conflicting packages...
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: pipewire-jack and jack2 are in conflict
That seemed to work, thank you! However, in the later stages of the update I get these corrupted file errors… Could you please help with those?

Thanks again. Wish that such a simple thing would work out of the box especially since EndavourOS is advertised as one of the most beginner friendly distros…
It is because you did an offline install and the current ISO is 2 months old. You are basically applying 2 months of updates at the same time. On an Arch-based distro, waiting that long between updates will often require some manual intervention.
With an online install, that wouldn’t have happened.
I have just tried the online installation. Everything seemed fine, and I clicked on Reboot after the installation. After rebooting, there was no desktop environment. Only a shell prompting me to type my login info I guess I may give Endeavour another go later, but not today. It seems not very newbie friendly as of today.
Did you select a desktop environment when you did the install? If not, there won’t be one. The next version of the ISO currently in development will make this more obvious.
To be fair, while we welcome users of all skill levels including complete beginners, we don’t describe ourselves as a distro for beginners.
If you don’t mind, if you could link to wherever you saw us advertised as a beginner distro, especially as one of the most beginner friendly distros?? I’d love to reach out to them and get that adjusted. That’s unfair to folks like yourself who come here expecting one thing to find out it’s not true. Setting that expectation is going to lead to a lot of disappointed folks.
To clarify my opinion on beginners, EndeavourOS is not a distro where someone with zero knowledge will have everything perfect out of the box.
It is a place where users of all skill levels are welcome and we have many great community members who are glad to help out if and when you have problems.
We have had many total beginners that have started with us and grown into active members of the community and are now helping others.
Whether EOS is user friendly is a matter of perspective. What i can say without doubt is if you want an arch based distro then EOS forum is the most helpful and friendly one there is
Beginner Friendly yes … but not in the meaning of easy to use in the same workflow as you are used on WindowsOS it is simply arch with some help and helper tools to manage archbased systems but not handholding and automatically preconfigured for any use-case only a basic setup to start to set everything up as you like/need
