Freezing Up recently

For a couple of weeks, Endeavor (Budgie version 10.9.2 with x11 windowing) has been freezing up, requiring a restart. A dozen times. I thought it was only with Firefox, but it has also frozen while using Chromium and desktop apps. Recently switched to Endeavor and DO NOT want to switch again. Help!

Not sure why it would be freezing up but would be helpful to see youe hardware output and also explain what you have set up or installed besides Chromium. Post the url for the hardware output.

I have Firefox , Digicam, Gimp, Inkscape, Ocular, LibreOffice plus the regular install

I don’t think you got the url correct or something went wrong?

Edit: If that’s all you have on the system i don’t see any of those should be causing an issue. Would like to see the hardware if you can try again.

Would any of the Troubleshooting logs be of any help?

you don’t have Nvidia graphics card do you? i had to return a computer because a glitch in the drivers… just saying probably not your problem but it could be something like that IDK i am noob

@Kwilco
I see you have an Asrock B450 Steel Legend motherboard. I see your Bios version is near the bottom of the list. Version 3.20 11/27/2019

There are many newer Bios updates for this board with newer AMD AGESA. Asrock has a lot of Beta versions which I don’t really understand on this board but there are ones in between and above those that are not beta. The 4.60 version is the latest one that isn’t beta. There are more beta versions after it.

They also have this disclaimer.

*ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if you are going to use Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge CPU on your system.
*Before updating this BIOS, please also read the description in previous BIOS version.

I think your cpu is newer than those but you can verify. I would consider updating the Bios to a newer version.

Just crashed while using Gwenview. New link: https://0x0.st/XC8X.txt

Coould heavy graphics use be the problem?

No, it’s built in to the AMD Ryzen™ 5 3400G

Thanks! Gonna give it a try.

Is there a straightforward method to update the bios? Everything I’ve read is so convoluted.

On ROG of mine, as I have understood, you put the new Bios file to USB-drive, boot up system and go to bios. There is a option to update Bios through USB.

More common way is to download update through Windows and install it alongside other updates via Windows Update.

But since we are talking about EOS, later is not of course an option.

Yes. You use instant flash. You should be able to go into the bios settings screen after downloading the Bios file from the Asrock website. I’m not sure what version you are going to try. As i said before Asrock has a lot of beta versions which to me is ridiculous. I would probably go to version 4.60.

if you’re freezing you might want to enable REISUB from the welcome menu and read a bit into that.

@Kwilco
You are probably affected by a mesa bug (since 24.3.x) with your AMD APU Ryzen 5 3400G. Downgrade to mesa 24.2.7-1 and the system will run stable again. At least that’s how it is for me.

All so helpful!! Many thanks! Now if I could get Instant Flash to see the file. “Image file not found”.

Latest: Mesa 24.3.2-arch1.1

I think it’s working!
