I have a few specific suggestions to improve the Calamares installer and overall user experience:
Hyprland in DE Selection: I want to see Hyprland listed directly in the desktop environment selection menu alongside KDE, GNOME, and Xfce. It is currently the most popular Wayland compositor and it deserves an official spot in the installer for a seamless setup.
F2FS Support in Partitions: Please add F2FS as an option in the manual partitioning menu. Since EndeavourOS is often installed on modern SSDs and NVMe drives, F2FS would be a great performance-focused alternative to ext4 and Btrfs.
Power Management Selection: It would be very helpful to choose between power-profiles-daemon or tlp during the installation phase. This is especially critical for laptop users who want optimized battery life right after the first boot.
Hyprland - We are constantly evaluating which DEs we offer. However, maintaining DEs is more work than you might think so adding a new one generally means removing one of the existing ones. I suspect there will be some changes in upcoming ISOs but I can’t guarantee Hyprland will make the cut.
F2FS - I honestly don’t remember why F2FS isn’t included. I will need to look into that.
TLP - This probably won’t happen. Many people already view our installer as offering too many options and being too complicated. Anyone who knows about TLP and understand the difference can easily install this themselves. It would also be hard to manage since many things pull in PPD as a dependency.
F2FS: I’m glad you’re looking into this. It would be a great addition for SSD performance.
Hyprland: I understand that maintenance is a lot of work. However, since Hyprland is becoming a ‘standard’ for many Arch users, even a basic (minimal) implementation would be highly appreciated.
Power Management: I understand your point about the installer complexity. I’ll stick to installing it manually post-install.
