I am no expert but i will make some suggestions. First off make sure you haven’t got a bunch of funky settings in your Bios. I’m not sure if its UEFI but i assume so. You need to have the optimal or default settings loaded and start from there. I don’t really know what you have loaded on your system as you may be a gamer…i’m not sure? But, I think you need to start looking at what things you have loaded and running in Linux. Start with the basics and look at as many different logs as you can such as systemctl status, systemctl --failed, dmesg, journal commands for boot and such like journalctl -fp err. I can’t really see all the information in the picture as you need to use full terminal when you run the command to capture all of it. Please use manual pages to look up information regarding the specific commands such as man systemctl.
Or use google as a tool to research specific things. I see you have avahi-daemon running. Are you using that? I see some errors. I also see watchdog? This sometimes causes shutdown issues. You have to start somewhere and i’m sure there are those here in the community that have more insight than i do with respect to shutdown issues. It’s a matter of starting on a base level and going from there. It takes time and some research and asking for help. On my system i have nothing other than software applications and a printer. You may have other hardware, or server, or other stuff running or hooked up to it. Mine shuts off instantly on all my systems and i am very picky. All of my logs are pretty clean. I hope this helps get you going in the right direction.
I am not an IT guy, therefore compared to me you are far more an expert than I am. ![]()
I have set the UEFI back to the default settings. That did not work. In fact when fast boot mode is turned off a problem comes back I had at the beginning with my PC. At some point the whole machine freezes without any error messages. It just freezes. The only thing you can do is press the restart button. At some point this problem did occur anymore. Seems like turning on fast boot mode solves this issue. But still it is too early to state that fast boot mode solves this issue. Lets hope the best, because if this issue comes back after 2 years, that would be a real set back.
I am not.
I just have installed some apps: Opera, Chromium, Libreoffice, Mediathek (+java), evolution, gparted, pamac. The other stuff are gnome standard apps.
I am sure its has not that much to do with the apps I have installed. The issue exists on every clean installation as well - not matter which Linux distro. I have tried that quite some time.
Meanwhile I disabled it. I dont need it.
Watchdog is installed by default and as far as I know it is the program which shuts off the pc, when an issue occurs. Therefore is good that that is running.
I will looking into the journals during my holidays. Maybe it get it fixed at the end. ![]()
Please use pastebin to share logs:
https://endeavouros.com/docs/forum/how-to-include-systemlogs-in-your-post/
I can only say that fast boot off should not make the computer freeze. By default fast boot is off and CSM should be on. Secure boot off. When you set the UEFI settings to default you do have to go and change a few things such as Secure Boot which isn’t supported on most Linux and possibly a couple things. All UEFI settings on motherboards are not created equal. Everyone is different so you have to look at the manual and understand them. On the Linux side as @joekamprad has said you need to include systemlogs and use pastebin to include them.
Learing everyday something new ![]()
It maybe should not but I have noticed that the 2 times I turned it off this issue after ~2 years reoccured. It may be coincidence, it may not. I dont know.
