Failed to mount /boot/ufi after a system update

i have no idea what im doing, some time ago i tryed to update my sistem with yay and i think i closed the bash before it was finished whitch caused some problems like kernel panic with the msg failed to find linux.img (im not sure anymore) and it that time i was afraid of the forums so i used chatgpt with the arch linux bot thing, and it fixed it but today after another yay update another problem came up and it said that it failed to mount, im using a live eos usb and i dont have windows installed if this info helps

Sounds like you lost the bootloader. Are you using grub?

yes i am, before the emergency mode, grub opens up and after i select eos to boot if give the black screen with a bunch of OKs and a single failed which is the failed to mount thing

here is an img i found here on the forums but its exactly the same

If you are using grub then you can boot on the live ISO and arch-chroot. Then try updating the system again. If it doesn’t fix it you may need to reinstall grub and then run the grub update command. sudo grub-install If no errors installing grub then run the grub update command
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg This has to be done also in arch-chroot using the live ISO.

how do i use arch-chroot? i am currently in my live ISO through my usb
im too much of a noob for this :frowning:

is it a good idea to just do “yay” without the grub install?
yay seems to update alot of stuff?

You can try that and see if it updates. Watch the output and see if it completes.

Edit: If it updates properly and finishes without error then you can reinstall grub and run the grub update command.

i have tryed but no dice, after that i tryed to imput your command sudo grub-install
installing for x86_64-efi platform
grub-install: error: cannot find efi directory

Are you sure you arch-chrooted properly? You have to mount the /efi partition also in that setup. Can you post lsblk

[liveuser@eos-2026.01.12 ~]$ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
loop0 7:0 0 2.7G 1 loop /run/archiso/airootfs
sda 8:0 0 931.5G 0 disk
└─sda1 8:1 0 931.5G 0 part
sdb 8:16 1 7.5G 0 disk
└─sdb1 8:17 1 7.5G 0 part /run/archiso/bootmnt
nvme0n1 259:0 0 3.6T 0 disk
├─nvme0n1p1 259:1 0 2G 0 part
├─nvme0n1p2 259:2 0 3.6T 0 part /mnt
└─nvme0n1p3 259:3 0 17.1G 0 part

/dev/nvme0n1p1 should be the /efi partition

That’s a big drive btw. Is /dev/nvme0n1p3 your swap partition? Then /dev/nvme0n1p2 should be root.
Correct?

yes this is correct, i did root to the nvme0n1p2 but that’s where the error came from
as for the drive i compensate alot

Okay … i just want to make sure you mounted the drives properly for the arch-chroot. I’ll give you instructions. Then you can reboot on the live ISO again and follow it then install grub again and run the update command if there is no error.

Reboot on the live ISO

sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p2 /mnt
sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p1 /mnt/boot/efi

sudo arch-chroot /mnt

Then try to reinstall grub and run the update grub command.

sudo arch-chroot /mnt^[[201~[liveuser@eos-2026.01.12 ~]$
[liveuser@eos-2026.01.12 ~]$ sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p2 /mnt
[liveuser@eos-2026.01.12 ~]$ sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p1 /mnt/boot/efi
[liveuser@eos-2026.01.12 ~]$ sudo arch-chroot /mnt
[root@EndeavourOS /]# sudo grub-install

Now run the grub update command. Then reboot!

i guess exit then reboot
correct?

Yes
