Hello forum! First of all, I wanted to give a shoutout to the devs and community of Endeavour. I’ve been using it for the past 3 months and the forum and documentation have been extremely helpful to help a complete newb like me set up dual boot on my Windows laptop and get it up and running. I have been using Ubuntu at work for a couple of years now and I wanted to try the Arch experience on my own PC (also for better telework).
The issues I am experiencing are with my external monitor, which experiences general slowdown and stutter in windows moving, opening/closing, and even the cursor. Before posting, I tried running through past topics to try to solve the issue. As I have an integrated graphics card and an Nvidia one, I figured out my laptop was not using the Nvidia card and tried implementing several solutions like using optimus manager or nvidia-prime. Ultimately I ended up in a situation where xrandr would not list any of the external ports of my laptop and only the main laptop screen worked. After a couple of Xorg breaks and having to boot in single mode from grub to get back to the same situation. I decided to reinstall the OS and ask for guidance on the correct procedure.
Steps I took:
- Install endeavourOS (Gnome DE)
- Run
nvidia-inst
I am completely new to this topic so I would appreciate that some kind souls tell me the outputs of which commands is needed to determine the issue. Other information that may be relevant:
- Nvidia card model: RTX 2070 Max-Q Design
- Laptop screen specs: 1920x1080, 144Hz
- External screen specs: 4K, 60Hz, connected by HDMI (can be connected via DP too)
- When reduced the resolution of the external screen to 2K, it gets much smoother but not 100%
- The laptop screen is running without issues at 144Hz all the time
Thank you very much for your help!
