It’s been several years of Plasma for me, - in the days of KDE4, I switched to XFCE just to get a little sanity, and if Plasma didn’t exist, I’d absolutely shift back to XFCE. It blows my mind that years later, Plasma still doesn’t have unique wallpapers per desktop..
What about Cosmic or Hyprland or Niri or River (ie other) or do you mean a supported DE selection in the installer ? ![]()
It does though @Canoe
, unless I misunderstand your meaning?
I have to separately configure my desktop wallpaper/colour/slideshow, per monitor, and they can be different (no special add-ons or plugins).
None of the above, but also all of them.
Yes. Installer only.
Did not think KDE would have a big purple landslide like that. Almost 2/3,
Reckoned it would a healthy majority of 1/3 of the vote…with the others taking up the rest.
Paint me surprised.
I’m not so sure the representation of non-KDE options is accurate. The poll only permits a single choice, and many voters I suspect access multiples desktop environments as a number have mentioned above, but were forced to choose just one.
tricky. conversely you could say that about KDE users to under that scenario. Unless you are saying KDE could be even more that 2/3. I run Cinnamon so voted that way.
One vote and “right now”, I agree, is not going to be accurate, but the “EOS” qualifier is limiting. But the word “primary” in OP’s poll could have dialed it in more as well.
Yes it would have and I’d concede that the results probably more accurately reflect that ![]()
Although, I’d have to change my vote ![]()
An interesting thought. Considering one who uses multiple DE s, but having only one choice. Would they vote for their “primary” DE, or would they vote the DE they are currently on, assuming either are included in the list of DE s mentioned, and they are not on their primary DE? Sure. I guess the question could have been asked differently. I also could have also included an “Other” category for those who are running DE s not included in the EOS installer. I tried to add “Other” after I made the poll, but one has only 7 minutes to change poll elements, so it is what it is.
Was a long time Plasma user. But I spent too much time with configuring and theming ![]()
Switched to GNOME may be 8 month ago and IMHO it even works a few percent better and more reliable than great Plama. And it’s more consistent to me. At least when I installed the apps I needed Plasma didn’t look that perfect anymore.
But it was a 51:49 trade off - and 6.5 has some of the features I begged for a long time (pin clipboard items im Klipper and auto dark/light theme switch e. g. )
That’s MHO too ![]()
per virtual desktop ![]()
I ran Plasma for a while some time back, and to me, it seemed like it was always on the verge of blowing a gasket. One day it actually did blow a gasket and crashed hard while I was running a steam game. After rebooting, and checking if anything was hinky I discovered that all my steam cloud saves were gone; somehow deleted. I can t understand how it could have happened, but never the less, I never used Plasma again.
all understandable but it’s still an interesting poll.
I’ve tried most of EOS’s DEs and have the one that works magnificently for me. Some I still want to try (openbox, cosmic) and some I don’t need to revisit but damn that’s the beauty of FOSS.
Some KDE program may have caused the issue but Plasma itself nope.
The Steam client has wiped peoples home directory before, so maybe you ran into another bug.
Wow never knew this happend, maybe i need to create a backup of my home folder today. Since the eos install i didn’t make any backups of my files in home ![]()
The other option is to run it as a flatpak, but that can have other downsides depending on what features you need.
