EndeavourOS won't boot from GRUB or systemd-boot

I’m a Linux newbie and I’ve kind of been wanting to install EnOS these past few days, but no matter how many times I reinstalled it with a different bootloader, it would not boot. On systemd-boot it black-screened after selecting EnOS, and on GRUB it got stuck on “Loading initial ramdisk …”. I’m on a Dell Latitude 5400 and I would like to dualboot Windows 10 and Endeavour, but It gets stuck on both bootloaders. Can specify specs if needed. I am using UEFI mode with Windows 10 already installed if that makes a difference. OH and I forgot to mention after using the Live USB once it will not work the second time.

Welcome to the forum :enos_flag: :enos:

Maybe this wiki can be of some help.

how about instead of doing a reinstall you just post the install logs so maybe we can see what the actual issue is.

I’ll try that.

I wrote the USB in DD mode on Rufus and it did the same black screen. The weird thing is that the partition, in Disk Management, is in-between 2 unallocated spaces.

This looks totally off. I would download the ISO again making sure to check its integrity.

I’m not sure about rufus never used it. I use plain dd and ventoy.

Ventoy confuses me so i prefer Rufus.

I’ll try using a torrent download instead of the mirrors.

Rufus:

Rufus has a lot of options to create bootable USB-Sticks for different situations, our ISO does not need any modifications and should be “burned” as it is a so-called hybrid ISO ready to boot in all cases, from Stick or burned DVD-Rom.

Leave all settings from Rufus window as they are and click Start, this will pop up a question window that asks to burn hybrid ISO in ISO-mode or DD-mode, choose DD-mode to be sure it will not be modified at all.

I’ve already read that. (Misclick!! D:)

DD mode looks like how i showed it in the reply i’m replying to, and ISO mode looks like:

image one big partiton.

@pixelerr Welcome to the forum

Did you turn off Secure Boot and Fast Startup before moving ahead?

Your screenshot seems to show the partitions in Windows; how did you shrink to make space for EOS, using Windows tools?

Did you run chkdsk on the Windows partition before trying to install EOS?

dd on Rufus should work most of the time but best to check ISO integrity first.

Yes, I turned both Secure Boot and Fast Startup off before proceeding. To make space i shrunk my system partition, like this:

No, I didn’t run chkdsk before trying to install, but I will do.
DD mode has weird partitoning and does not boot.
Also, how do I check integrity…? I have not touched Linux since 2022-3 so I don’t know how to check an ISO’s integrity. If you could link a wiki page explaining it I’ll read it.

Use your web browser and a search engine on Windows: “how to check iso integrity in Windows”

Alright, I checked the SHA512 sum and… It’s all good!

Are you using the windows esp or did you create a separate one for EOS ?
In the first wiki link I gave you it is explained how to do that.

I used the “search it up” method and found the command (Get-FileHash .\EndeavourOS_Mercury-Neo-2025.03.19.iso -Algorithm SHA512).hash

Well I was referring to the method you where using to install EOS .
