Endeavouros not booting into live environment on an old BIOS based system

I can see it loads nouveau driver with no issues:

Feb 16 19:05:49 EndeavourOS kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: NVIDIA GK107 (0e7080a2)

Feb 16 19:05:50 EndeavourOS kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: bios: version 80.07.df.00.01

Feb 16 19:05:50 EndeavourOS kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: vgaarb: deactivate vga console

Feb 16 19:05:50 EndeavourOS kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fb: 4096 MiB DDR3

but on staring livesession it totally fails on everything the first time:

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: plasma-kwin_x11.service: start operation timed out. Terminating.

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: plasma-ksmserver.service: start operation timed out. Terminating.

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: plasma-kded6.service: start operation timed out. Terminating.

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: plasma-ksmserver.service: Failed with result 'timeout'.

But looks like starting it just fine after this:

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: graphical-session.target: Failed to enqueue stop job, ignoring: Transaction for graphical-session.target/stop is destructive (app-vmware\x2duser@autostart.service has 'start' job queued, but 'stop' is included in transaction).

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS vmware-user-suid-wrapper[1028]: vmware-user: could not open /proc/fs/vmblock/dev

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: Starting KDE Window Manager...

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: Started Welcome.

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: Started vboxclient.

So looks like it ha sonly an issue outputting image to your display… That’s connected via HDMI or DVI ?

The monitor is connected to the gpu directly via HDMI. Also I have disabled Visualization, I think it is called VT-x, maybe enabling it will help?

should not make a difference that’s not used on the LiveSession boot of the ISO on real hardware.
The log does not show HDMI display only HDMI audio it mentions DVI only

And also deeper analysis shows me that the log looks like the Livesession is loading

this per example:

Feb 16 19:08:31 EndeavourOS systemd[765]: Started Welcome.

that`s the welcome app would not start without X.

What i can do is to create an ISO with legacy nvidia drivers to be used on boot… i can upload that for you to download.

I extracted the logs with VT-x on, and it seems that it has many more lines than VT-x off, can you please look it?-

Also, thanks for thinking about creating an ISO just for me, But I would prefer if you save your time and look into the logs and identify the problem. And if you don’t see any differences, then yes please, I would like an ISO with the 470 drivers.
Thanks,
LL

nouveau 0000:01:00.0: [drm] Registered 4 planes with drm panic

could link to an issue… Driver Problems with registration of the DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) levels (planes) ? MA yits an issue specifically with your GPU and the nouveau driver…but only betting in the dark here…

changing boot kernel parameter from:
nouveau.modeset=1
to
nouveau.modeset=0
could change something…

similar to this: Endeavouros not booting into live environment on an old BIOS based system - #30 by joekamprad

Yes, it did change something, now my monitor turns on, but still, after about 30 minutes of wait or so, nothing happened. And it is still stuck.
Here are the logs if you want to investigate-(Sorry for making you read so much, I don’t know much about arch, so I cannot investigate it myself.)

Thanks,
LL

nah i love me some logs  and i could find out something on the way that will help resolving issues like yours in the future…

Logs do not show anything hinting only that it simply does not load any X

BTW i just build Nvidia Legacy ISO … i will upload and give the URL a bit later

There you have it in case you want to try:
EndeavourOS-Nvidia-Legacy-ISO

You have to use the Nvidia boot option (also it says ā€œlatestā€ cards.

If it works for you to reach graphical live session, only offline install will work.

Thank you so much friend! This made my system to actually boot into the live environment, and after loading initramfs it only took about 1 minute to boot into the live environment, just as I suspected, this was a driver issue!
Thanks to you and other friends,
LL

It’s probably because it doesn’t like noveau and being an older gpu you need the 470.xx version drivers.
