EndeavourOS just freeze

Hello!
I’m a seasoned linux user and work as a developer.

I switched from 10 years on Linux Mint to EndeavourOS both on my home laptop and my stationary at work recently. So far I’m loving it!

…but…

This has happened too many times now for it just to be a “random thing”.
The OS just freeze. Nothing works, music stops playing, ctrl+alt+F1 etc… nothing works
So I take note of the time (20:38), hard resets the computer and when booted up again I scan the logs.

To my eyes this looks like nothing…

What else can I do to debug this?

I really wanna stay on EndeavourOS, but this is kind of a show-stopper.

Have you tried other kernels, do they have the same issue?
Or is the motherboard BIOS firmware up to date?

Yes, I tried the latest kernel before reverting to the lts one.
The BIOS has nothing to do with this, everything was fine on Mint 20 before I reinstalled.

I’m suspecting Cinnamon, but it’s really hard to debug when nothing is in the logs

So… are you saying the LTS kernel on EndeavourOS works?

Are you sure? Arch kernel is typically much newer than Mint kernel. Have you tried Mint with such a new kernel?

Also, command eos-log-tool -j includes many different logs to select and try. If you try it, you can send the returned URL here.

Are you using the intel driver? Try the modesetting built-in.

Remove xf86-video-intel and reboot.

Sorry, I was a bit unclear about the kernel. I thought I was on the LTS, but as you see in neofetch I’m still on the rt. So I switched to the LTS now (5.15.90). Will try to run this for a while and hope for the best.

If that doesn’t work I’ll try another reinstall and use timeshift to try to debug where things are going wrong.

I was running 5.15.0 on Mint. You can never be sure about BIOS ofc, it just seems like a long shot. I will however see if there are some upgrades to be installed.

I tried the eos-log-tool, handy thing, though skimming through the logs I couln’t see anything relevant

Thank you for your help so far

Welcome @fractalf
Did you happen to try what @xircon suggested removing the Intel driver. Have you looked to see if there actually is a Bios update. You may think it doesn’t matter but sometimes it does make a difference. I am not a big believer in the lts kernel solving all problems and it is not the first thing that i jump to when there is a issue. I am a huge believer in updating EUFI or Bios. A lot of issues don’t necessarily happen due to the kernel being newer but yes sometimes they do. I also think it would be more beneficial if you would post logs that are asked for so that others can also look them over to try to help you.

Thank you @ricklinux
So, I updated the BIOS today and reverted to using the rt kernel.
I will let the system run like this for a while to see if the problem reoccurs or not before doing the other stuff!
