I didn’t have any problems to resolve, myself, at all. But I ‘m on KDE.
Did you try it from the live ISO before installing? If YES, was it functional?
Maybe, there is some setting on XFCE? I’ve never used it as my DE .
Was wifi functional, before, so you can eliminate a hardware issue?

was gifted a 2013 doggy tosh satellite with same/worse specs than OP. It’s not that 4GB gets you nowhere…it’s the awful ghz/speed.
endeavour gnome and solus gnome it can’t handle greacefully. when I get a break I’m just going to pull the trigger and install featherweight Alpine on it. Always liked that crazy little server

yes, I have try the live iso but the wifi doesn’t work,
in xfce there are not different wifi settings than in kde
in this laptop the wifi work well with ubuntu based distro like Mint
or Trisquel, but have driver problem with Arch or Debian based distro
(btw is just a curiosity, I also have a tp link wifi key work perfectly)
