Endeavour Installation - little questions

Hello Forum,

After playing a little bit with Endeavour installation in VirtualBox I have now done it: I installed the Endeavour OS on the SSD of my new Laptop.

The installation went well in general:

  • wanted BTRFS with Grub as bootloader
    • I missed the point where to specify the full FS encryption
    • I stopped the installation, when I realized and wanted to go back to activate, but that was not possible. (VM installation was with that enabled, but could not remember, where to enable)
    • I ended in partitioning tab with no chance to further go forward (as I don’t wanted to change something; “next” was disabled :astonished:) – only chance: deleted SWAP, then I could proceed the installation process (maybe this is a bug and is not intended)
  • Gnome-flavour (maybe something lighter will come later: xfce, sway, hyprland)
    • Remark: after reboot there was no bluetooth activated (no mouse ): had to do systemctl start bluetooth; systemctl enable bluetooth by hand

So, I now have Endeavour with no SWAP and no encryption.

First, Installed Swapper and BTRFS-Assistant which run’s well, as I could see so far. Also, started to modify/adjust Gnome environment, install some extensions.

But before going on I have to decide, if I redo calculation to

  1. enable SWAP (Swap-file on BTRFS should be possible even now; would like a dedicated SWAP partition though, as it was in default layout)
  2. I would like to go with full FS encryption; but I guess it is not possible to change this now (after installation) → that would mean re-installation (no big deal, as not much work invested so far)

But all in all, I am sure Endeavour is what I like to have on this machine.

not 100% sure what you experienced there… But if next is not working, settings are not complete… Like choosing to replace partition without actually choosing a partition you want to replace…

Automatic Partition has the option to “enable” encryption…

and easy options to add swapfile. or swap partitions including option to setup resume/hibernate.

Manual Partition option has also encryption but you need to enable it for all partitions to use full encryption, you can’t encrypt the EFI partition.

Hello @joekamprad ,

thank you for your reply. First: all is solved; in fact I am answering from that new machine running fresh install of EndeavourOS. Works great!

TOP1 (bluetooth): it was just a remark: the service was not started automatically - as it was in teh live-system. So, I knew that it should work (no hardware issue) and started/enabled the service.

TOP2 (next not working): I know: the error is usually in front of the computer - not inside. My excuse is the new display with great resolution, all dialogs in 10pt-fonts and my old eyes . So, it is very likely, that there was still something missing to complete the info. That was clearly the case for encryption of file system (you show it in your post; I found that in the Wiki, too).

So, my bad. And so, I started a fresh install again with all features I wanted. Ran in about 45 minutes and system works really well (tweaking around to adjust everything to my needs now).

My thanks to the Forum-Community,
Photor
