Endeavour and wind*ws (🤮) nuking each other

so yeah i needed windows for specific software and dont connect it to internet cuz obvious reasons. the thing is i partitioned my disk into 2 parts to dual boot, and despite no invading each other space installing one nukes the other. or maybe just makes it inaccessible. the data is not lost, i can still see it but when booting only the last one i installed prevails. could i fix it without using windows boot manager?

For us to have some more info about your set up, boot up your EnOS installation, if you can, or the Live USB and post the output of the following commands, to begin with:

efibootmgr

sudo parted -l

You can run your much-needed windows software on Linux without having windows installed

sounds also a bit like basic setup issue, like windows is installed in efi and linux in CSM legacy mode or vice versa.
As usually EndeavourOS installer works pretty good to add windows to the bootloader… in case you follow the nr. one rule: first install windows second linux.
If the other way around windows will be able to nuke bootloader and more easily.

While compatibility tools work in many instances there are several where they don’t (Adobe CS applications being the most commonly cited examples!) and suggesting them as a panacea for all situations isn’t ideal :slightly_smiling_face:

That said, @u8e23hc09 hasn’t specified exactly what the software is so perhaps it is workable!

I think this confirms what @joekamprad was saying:

You can probably switch from one to the other in the BIOS. You can trigger the BIOS boot menu when you startup your computer and pick whichever OS you want. But you won’t be able to get them on the same bootloader with one in UEFI mode and the other in legacy BIOS mode.

The installer will use UEFI or legacy BIOS mode depending on how the installation media was created. Most likely your EndeavourOS boot media was flashed in legacy BIOS mode. Since you have a UEFI board and already have an EFI partition on your other disk, probably what you want to do is re-do the boot media in UEFI mode and reinstall EndeavourOS one more time.

i somehow solved it, no actual idea what i touched but closing this. it was something from the installation
