Dumb question about kernels

what would happen if you installed the raw linux kernel (6.8.4-arch1-1 for me i think), any version, hardened, lts, stable or RC, and just burnt it to ISO and ran it, would t just be a black screen? If so, is there are way to use that to make a distro from scratch, from adding the wm/de to the packages. Just curious

It wouldn’t run. You would get an error that there is no bootable media or something similar.

Look into LFS. That walks you through building a Linux system step by step. Building a kernel is one of the easiest parts of the process so it wouldn’t make sense to re-use an Arch kernel binary and build everything else. However, you do need to start from something.
