Dolphin and thumbnails files .odt and .docx

Greetings to all!
For some reason, I had to abandon Libreoffice and switch to Onlyoffice.
But after uninstalling Libreoffice, thumbnails of files disappeared .odt. Thumbnails files .docx and before the program was deleted were not displayed.
As I understand it, Onlyoffice does not create thumbnails when saving files. Is there any way to display the specified files in Dolphin thumbnails?

Yep. It’s a checkbox in Dolphin’s settings.

Settings > Interface > Previews > Office Documents

Of course, it’s all inclusive, but…

I can’t read whatever language that is.

Do you see this?

If it’s no longer there after uninstalling LibreOffice

Then it would probably mean there is a package that usually gets downloaded with LibreOffice that is possibly specific to Dolphin/thumbnails.

The reason could be the constant crashing I’ve been experiencing when selecting text with the mouse. I’ve also temporarily switched to OnlyOffice, but I prefer LibreOffice — word history and completions, selecting multiple words in different lines, way more options in general, etc.

Switched the system to English. I see it of course

Hmm. Just checked it on my system. .ODT files show a preview, but not .DOCX files.

Gonna check what belongs to LibreOffice to see if I can narrow down which package creates the thumbnail.

That said: .ODT files are wrapped XML files, so there may be an image file inside that counts as the thumbnail — will check this too.

Yep:

Checked the .DOCX file. As expected, it doesn’t have a thumbnail file inside.

I check with an archive manager in case you are wondering how to do it yourself.

With Libreoffice installed, previews are displayed for .odt (if you save the file using Libreoffice). I don’t want to have Libreoffice on the system just to display previews. But for .docx is not displayed.
Onlyoffice does not generate previews when saving. That’s why I’m asking about other possible solutions. Or is it possible to display the preview only if there is a preview in the document file?

Yeah, I understood what your query is. I was just walking you through what I’m doing to figure things out.

Okay, yeah, like you said:

So, it is indeed a LibreOffice-specific feature. If I take a file originally saved by LibreOffice, open it in OnlyOffice, then save it, the thumbnail is gone. Tested this with regular text editors as well.

Same file I showed before:

It’s now missing the manifest.rdf file and the Thumbnails folder.
Reopening it and saving in LibreOffice re-adds the thumbnail.
There doesn’t seem to be any way to get those thumbnails without it.

Iehhhh… And how nice it would be to have preview generation at the system level…

To confirm, do you have the below packages? I assumed you did, but just to be sure.
Not that it matters, because I have them and experience the same results you have.

ffmpegthumbnailer 2.2.3-3
ffmpegthumbs 24.08.3-2
kdegraphics-thumbnailers 24.08.3-1

Also, it seems libgsf can help. It’s in the Repos: https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/libgsf/

Arch Wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/File_manager_functionality#File_managers_other_than_Dolphin_and_Konqueror

Yes, the first three packages are installed in the system

Ok. Install libgsf and see if it fixes it. View the wiki link.

I’m going to try it on a virtual machine now

P.S. libgsf it was already present in the system and does not affect anything
