Does sway session overwrite KDE-plasma settings?

Hey,
I recently installed EndeavourOS with KDE-plasma and I use it with wayland.
Yesterday, I tried to set up the installation of

sway
waybar
wofi

A new session “Sway (wayland)” appears then available together with

“Plasma (wayland)”
“Plasma (x11)”

The problem is that, with sway, all KDE configurations/themes/settings are lost. I found (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=252580) that it could be possible to force XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE and this may solve this issue, but I don’t know how to do this.

any idea?
many thanks

What do you mean? You mean installing sway caused your plasma settings to disappear when you select a plasma session? Or do you mean that when you choose the sway session, you don’t have your plasma themes?

The second one. I wish to keep my KDE-settings in sway (in sway session, if I open KDE settings, all KDE-based apps (Kscreen, Krunner),… do not work).

Those settings don’t span DEs.

You need to separately configure the theming settings on sway.

Don’t try setting XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE. That will break things under sway.

oh, I see. Thank you. Is there a way to share/export settings from DEs?

I don’t think there is a way to share Qt theming settings between plasma and sway. You could, however, use the same settings for Qt applications.

You can’t apply a plasma theme to sway.

Not really, no, as they all have their own mechanisms for this. Technically you can use something like qt5ct and lxappearance to set Qt themes and GTK themes respectively and bring some consistency to that between Desktop Environments and Window Managers, but this can get hokey quickly. I have found that if you start doing that you will likely cause tons of issues with KDE. When running KDE it’s really best to let it be it’s own thing and THE thing and don’t change Qt / GTK settings for other window managers outside of it. Accept what’s there (there are exceptions of course but the broader point stands).

thank you. both. I will keep the things separated.

Welcome to the EndeavourOS forum. I hope you enjoy your time here.

As you have seen, there is a lot of knowledge here.

Alternatively, there’s nothing wrong with trying stuff, breaking stuff, wiping it, trying stuff, breaking stuff, wiping it  I probably have done so hundreds of times over the years…just because.
