I could safely use plain Arch or Cachy or EOS or probably most other Arch based, if worst came to worst.
I also probably could jump on the Fedora bandwagon or openSuse. Gods forfend that I should be forced to Debian though.
I feel exactly the same. The only thing I’ve decided for myself is that I’ll never go back to Manjaro. But the rest is probably just purple.
I like plain Arch.
Had it years back on my old mini-laptop and it worked well. However when I tried to install it to my wife’s old Acer I stumbled into a brick wall and did not find any answer how to continue. Wiki and the official installation guide were completely useless; they somehow assumed, that you know the ropes and so on.
I decided not to finish installation and switched to EOS and evidently installed into my main machine. Main reason to quit installing plain Arch was the fact that if I would have dared to ask help on the forums, I would propably had got the infamous answer “read the wiki, noob, lol”.
Then these guys wonder why people don’t wander near Arch and have bad image about Linux users in general…
I get that the question (almost any question) had probably been answered 1500 times, and if the noob had just bothered to search/read, they wouldn’t have to ask (again).
Oh, I get that too. I know it’s irritating to answer same questions over and over. But in that case the answer should be something like “This has been answered before” and possibly post a link to most recent post or something like that.
At my age, I just don’t want to bother with pure arch anymore.
For some reason, I tend to hop onto Gentoo every xmas So far I’ve resisted the urge this year. Tho with -25c outside compiling the system could keep me warm 'n fuzzy over the holidays.
Tho I really gotta consider at least reinstalling EOS just to get a fresh start after all the clutter working remotely in different fields has left on the system. Reinstalling/distro-hopping also provides valid reason to procrastinate bit longer over working on my dissertation
I totally understand that. I’ve reinstalled because it’s easier to start clean than to clean up. If only I could reinstall the house yearly. Besides sometimes there’s some new base config distro provided that you want anyway ;0
