I’m running nvidia geforce gtx 980 ti gpu and my system only shows certain resolutions. Is there a way to get more resolutions?
what DE? Budgie?
Cinnamon
okay… using Nvidia Drivers or not choosing those ones?
I do saw this issue only on wayland… but afaik cinnamon does not run on wayland?
Running X11 with the proprietary nvidia driver. I’ve tried other DE’s and all the same. Limited resolution options.
What do you mean by that? Are you looking for higher resolution, could it just be thats your screen max resolution (3840x2160)?
Check also via xrandr
Edit: you could check and/or try setting another resolution via terminal.
Another one could be cable connected to your monitor, perhaps hardware…
What I mean is, in the past I used to be able to select from a wider list of resolutions. Now I’m limited to what I’ve listed above. I’m looking for resolutions between 3840x2160 and 1920x1080.
I’m not familiar with xrandr
Ok thanks for clarifying! You probably want to do that via gui but could try via cli.
Quick check, disable/enable fractional scaling and high dpi settings in display settings if not already done so.
To get started you can type xrandr
in the terminal and it will show which screens are connected and resolution options.
Why do I need to disable? I set this so I can make my screen readable, otherwise fonts are too small.
Just for testing, high dpi screens are a problem… fractional scaling works best on wayland.
Edit: there are other tricks to scale fonts etc. but no need to get into that here… I have been battling with this plus nvidia for about the past year, so…
simply open terminal and type xrandr
or give us the output via pastebin:
xrandr | eos-sendlog
will give out a short URL you can post here…
The boot log could give some hint also:
journalctl -b -0 | eos-sendlog
[guido@endeavour Desktop]$ xrandr | eos-sendlog

yea strange … is this happen after latest Nvidia version upgrade to 495?
What does this mean?
that’s the link to the pastebin the log tool provides…
