Data leak and delay from sddm on laptop waking from sleep or hibernate

So with Plasma 6 and sddm I see a data leak problem, and lengthy delays when waking from sleep or resuming from hibernate on my laptop.

If I press Meta-L I can lock the screen, and enter a password, everything is really snappy.

If I resume from hibernation, the first thing that is presented is the full desktop of the logged in user, even before logging in, I can see all the things open on the desktop before authenticaiton occurs. Can move the mouse pointer around. Cannot click on anything though.

After about 30 seconds, the sddm login will be presented, covering up the screen and I can authenticate then and use the system as normal.

This is also the case if the machine goes to idle timeout, or resumes from sleep.

In all of these cases, activating the system again will leak the current desktop for half a minute or more before the login screen overlays the desktop.

What might this be? I can’t see anything standout in the logs, but I don’t really know what I’m looking for here. Appreciate any ideas.

Hey! Welcome back!

Can I ask, are you on X11 or Wayland? If X11, it’s been a bug that’s been going on for years, but shouldn’t be present in Wayland. If you are, please take a moment to log it, it makes a difference.

thankx for the info Canoe (shouldn’t be present in Wayland)… hence, I use Wayland.

data leaks suck

OMG i was thinking of memory leak eitherway… good I am not effected in Wayland

I’m using X11 session with plasma. Mostly because I can’t get ‘barrier’ or any of that class of remote control software to work on Wayland.

Anyway, it’s an X11 session. I can test if the problem goes away in a wayland session though…

It does! The problem does not, in fact, happen on Wayland. Well I never.

Okay, so I have a way forward for this, just got to wait for the other software to catch up to Wayland then I can switch.

Thanks!

No worries, - it may be worth looking at Input Leap if that’s aligned with what you need (it’s a fork); Good luck!

I’ve been following input leap and I just can’t make it work with my clients. No doubt it, or something else, will eventually.
