@manyroads could be interesting to setup ublock as Advanced Mode after you setup your FF browser. Personally using Advanced mode, configured to my preference.

The colon may be the problem
For any who might want to see how I have hardened FF for my use, here’s a tutorial.
I just put this here if someone may find it useful. It is some suggestions/recommendations from arkenfox people.
Have you followed this? If so, what are your thoughts/ exeriences?
I should say that I use LibreWolf as my primary browser and follow their recommendation: https://librewolf.net/docs/addons/
Basically, only uBlock Origin that I load with a couple more blocklists.
I just mentioned arkenfox’ recommendations on the use of addons since you recommend their user.js for “extreme security”.
If I am in need of anonymity, which happens so rarely if ever, I would use TOR browser in safest mode.
Exactly, I don’t want myself wasting time to check FF upstream changes then arkenfox recommendations/changes (IIRC can be automated). LibreWolf better for my usecase. Just tinkered with ublock and that’s all.
This is the most detailed list I have ever seen.
Really interesting.
Thank you @manyroads
I’m a bit ocd… anal and all those other things that make people crazy. ;:
You touch on two very important issues…
- know your risks
- understand the costs of their mitigation
It is essential to maintain a focus on addressing those risks that threaten, annoy or bother you. Worry less on distant or low-level risks, if at all.
Can this be done on a per profile basis? For example I can have different profiles defined and then for one of these profile alone I enable privacy.resistFingerprinting
, privacy.trackingprotection.fingerprinting.enabled
and others.
Some of these seems to overlap and are redundant. For example uBlockOrigin extension should block CDN tracking too. Also if CanvasBlocker is used then the options for privacy.resistFingerprinting
, privacy.trackingprotection.fingerprinting.enabled
and others need not be enabled. Am I missing something over here?
I’m not clear what you are asking. You can create unique Linux User account security ‘profiles’ setups. I have nothing special on root… and very special on my user account. If you are speaking about FF profiles, I have no idea. Try it and see what happens. I personally can’t imagine having more than one FF profile for myself (excepting, of course, the old ones I forget to clean out).
For those interested in significant updates (bug fixes) to my ‘resilient desktop’ journey, I have published important updates on the two following webpages:
