Cassini, packed with new features, is here

I do not think Giancarlo Razzolini left Arch.
And also if so someone can still take over the package maintaining.

The issue why arch package is not using latest release is more related to a development change upstream:

A nice review, although with some facts not being true, but an overall nice review in all.

@joekamprad Uhmā€¦ What did I say about Telegram/chats??? :crazy_face: :crazy_face: :sauropod: :sauropod:(Referring to the article)

Very nice review. Tells it like it is for the most part.

well, the link shows his last activity as actual packager was in June and the list definitely was longer back when the toolchain issue was going through the press (that was the last time I checked his activities with the same link you used).

thanks, did not see that. Looks like there was a change regarding that issue 2 weeks ago, lets see if the next dracut release solves the problem and a new maintainer steps up.

The ā€œclear roadmapā€ as summarized in the article you seem to be referring to might end up as yet more troubles asked for, when it comes to answering questions regarding dracut and systemd boot, me thinks.

But who am I to judge. I have no say, only leaving a first impression on things that appear to me at a first glance. So please donā€™t take it as an offense.

I still keep EnOS endeavours very much appreciated, even if the world is getting swamped with computers, originally manufactured for Windozers and the likeā€¦ and that goes for the whole GNU Linux world, me thinks.

Terrific work guys! The development and testing teams!!!

Canā€™t be any worse than having grub go for a crap and cause all kinds of issues me thinks.
I just think it was a nice review.

I tend to doubt that. As of yet. Issues abound may appear instead with newbies asking for help with dracut and systemd boot in regards to btrfs snaps etc. yadda yaddaā€¦ is what I said. But of course, I may be fundamentally wrong. - Hopefully!

Newbies are always asking for help anyway whether itā€™s Btrfs or Grub or Systemd-Boot or something else. I donā€™t have many answers ā€¦ i just try to help where i can.

I am aware of this. And I salute you for it! :+1:

This ISO is a serious step backwards for this distro. A convoluted mess.

Individual agendas and preferences being pushed, no fully encrypted install by default ā€¦ they even removed the option for encrypting an install when using Replace a Partion option :man_facepalming: .

Moved to a non standard Arch distro init system that is currently unmaintained, using a toolchain written and supported by a single person. Yeah, that seems like a great idea ā€¦ but if he wants it then who are we to argue?

Not even an option to install mkinitcpio either.

Taken something that was simple and good and :eggplant: it.

Good job!

I donā€™t think youā€™ll be wrong, because Iā€™ll probably be one of those questioners crying, too.

Iā€™m not worried about the installation on my own machine, it runs and runs and runs ā€¦ with Grub and mkinitcpio. But I also have 3 other boxes to maintain, all with EOS. And as I see it, there will soon be new installations with Btrfs and the new ISO. Schaumermal ā€¦

is there some list what packages no desktop option have pre-installled? I am tempted to do minimal installation over my Arch system (just because I am bored and like some tools that EOS ships)

I donā€™t think we did this. At least, not on purpose. If this is missing it may be a Calamares problem. I can look into it.

What toolchain are you talking about? We use the same toolchain as arch.

@otherbarry is probably referring to dracut .

Dracut is being maintained upstream. Itā€™s currently not being maintained in arch repos because of signature issues.

We were able to build and test the latest Dracut from upstream without any issues.
We are still waiting for the issue to be resolved on arch side before doing something about it.

I didnā€™t know mkinitcpio had so many fans :joy:
