that worked! thank you!

that being said I wonder if there is a program the auto-detects the pauses, meaning it self-edits.
This `avid` method is 100% manual, which means I have to fast-forward every song and save…but hey, I still have the training wheels on, as it were so more to explore.

videomass: " It is a [FLOSS](https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/floss-and-foss.en.html), powerful, multitasking and cross-platform graphical user interface (GUI) for [FFmpeg](https://www.ffmpeg.org/) and [yt-dlp](https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp)."
you don’t say? another tool to play with—graci. I’ve never enjoyed any `yt-dlp` frontends. Will check it out.

I actually did this a while ago and I believe I followed [this](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45526996/split-audio-files-using-silence-detection) suggestion and method for using [pydub](https://github.com/jiaaro/pydub) once I had my separated audio track to work with.

Maybe give that a look?

dense reading (the stack article) but gave me some insight on what you can trick out `ffmpeg` to do.
OP’s dilemma similar to mine:

“(I wanted to split the recording of all of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos into particular songs, the 2 LPs are 2 hours long, @ 44 kHz 16bit stereo that is 1.4 GB in memory and very slow).”

Assuming the record label/producer _did_ split with the concerto up like a rock album–with pauses between songs/pieces–then `pydub` is interesting.

However there is a lot of wiggle room in OP’s words: maybe the record is 1 hour straight (per disk? per side?), no breaks? Then pydub would have to listen for **LIVE** music and **LIVE** musicians to finish the piece a second before composer guides them into the next act. So no natural pauses.

In fact, the `pydub` pause detection thresholds–and its imperfection/needs tweaking numbers–was an interesting aspect of that thread dialogue.

food for thought, thank you.
