Did you install and configure the browser extension, KeePassXC-Browser
?
Still doesn’t auto type but when I have connected a database I can fill the credentials fields by clicking in an icon added to the username field. So that’s better than I had before.
Password manager wins over the built in browser security any day. Keepass and derivatives (keepassxc, etc) are very good, or if you prefer cloud based, Bitwarden works very well, and my current is 1Password, which is also good. With client based password managers, if you have multiple devices, you will obviously have to have a means to sync them because otherwise you will have multiple copies that are not in sync.
I vote for KeepassXC & syncthing, too.
Syncing across 4 computers, raspi4 as server - everytime some backups available (If you do not too much wrong…).
And you can backup the db-file on a stick or somewhere.
Never trusted any browser.
I use Nextcloud for that. db file is on local Nextcloud instance. And all clients connect via WebDAV. Only have iOS Devices and use the App KeePassium. KeePassium safes the db to the device when you open it. So when i’m not on the local network it opens the copy safed on the device.
Works good so far.
Yes, some years ago I did the same here. But Nextcloud has grown up to a hydra too big for the little raspi4…
Syncthing (and radicale for the Thunderbirds) is not such heavy and sufficient for me.
true. I only use it for file sharing. CalDav is in my case Baikal
^^ this
I see KeepassXC is the popular choice and have done accordingly. Thank you all for the advice
I actually got myself a completely separate drive for the home stuff as I thought it was wise. And an external drive as a further backup - such has been my experience of making mistakes on Linux.
Nevertheless, all primary software goes on the OS drive, however - steam, games, software. So I imagined this would be were KeepassXC or anything else would keep the passwords. A problem, obviously, if there was another problem.
Make regular backups of the .kdbx file (in case you use KeepassXC). So you don’t have to worry if something happens to the internal drive
