I’m not sure if this might be the correct tag for the topic, so I apologize in case I’m wrong
When I was on Windows I used Opera GX, mainly for the theming and the side panel which allowed web apps to be used as lateral floating tab, specially for messaging. Since that option isn’t available, I’ve tried just using a pinned tab or a desktop web client but I really just don’t get used to it.
I tried Vivaldi too but since it uses the mobile site for WhatsApp by default it really doesn’t work and despite searching for a solution I didn’t manage to fix it. Opera lags sometimes. So if anyone has any suggestion I’d love to hear it
I’ve been using Vivaldi for years, its probably the most customizable browser out there. Its really good. Although, i did switch to Firefox when i returned to arch, it just works.
More features means a higher chance of a bug. I’d rather just stick with something that works.
I’ve switched to Librewolf. . . and dropped ‘Firefox’ because of AI. Hopefully the ‘devs’ will study this really close so that it doesn’t infringe on peoples security, privacy, and rights.
Between those three I have as much privacy as can be expected on the internet using LibreWolf…for anything that LibreWolf does not do by default, I use Firefox (with AI disabled) and when Mozilla based browsers are flaky (for some sites they still are–try to login and use Bell Canada’s website for customers, with ANY Mozilla based browser=exercise in frustration), I use Vivaldi.
I HAVE caught myself using Vivaldi long after the reason I opened it was already done. I DO like it. It is de-googled unless you check the boxes to re-google it :-). I have used Firefox like browsers for about 30 years though so, hard to get used to. AND it won’t install and use Download-helper extension very well and I make use of the download-helper plugin so much I bought it even though it is free for Linux–I bought the WInblows version when I was using Windows and Linux on a dual boot, just to support the extension.
I also use privacy focused extensions: ublock, webRTC, canvass blocker and crap ton of DNS block script from my firewall.
Nothing is totally secure these days so I also exercise caution when surfing the web and so far, well, I FEEL safe…
