Books, what are you reading right now?

I imagine if you are overdosing on Vitamin D as a habit, this book might come in handy

Indeed.

Just started reading “How Music Works” by David Byrne. Only a chapter and a half in so far, pretty good.

a history of his career from Jonathon Richman etc? or an academic look at how music is made? or both? tell me more,

Hmmm, in chapter 1 he talks about music in general and argues that it’s actually written for the venue where it will be performed, rather than in a vacuum. Chapter 2 (which I just finished) was autobiographical, little tidbits about his time with the Talking Heads and then his solo career etc.

The next chapter is about technology and music, there is one about curation later in the book…It’s a wee bit of everything, but so far, pretty engaging stuff!

that is fascinating. wonder if they were boston based since he took half the band from Jonathon Richman but I think CBGBs is where they cut their teeth. I LOVE how every chapter is different. Rock on, far out, and thank you.

Yeah he does talk about CBGB a lot, I think they were essentially New York based.

In my attempt to become more active here, books and booze are a good start.

Currently reading:

The Elements of Style
When Violence is the Answer
Legacies by L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
Elric of Melnibone

As a youth, I was never without a book. My copy of War of the Worlds started to disintegrate in my bookbag, as I carried it around constantly, after reading it twice.

I have lamented my lack of reading, and I still consider myself a very poor reader. So I’ve made an effort to increase my volume.

This has been sitting on my bookshelf for a long time but I have not had a time to read it yet.

Title is in Finnish, meaning The Story of Kullervo. It’s the very first story of professor Tolkien.

I need to add that to my list, I have been trying to collect all his work. It feels like an impossible task.

Amazon seems to have English edition as paperback. The one in Finnish I have is hardcover.

Thanks for the link. I have saved it.

I have run out of bookshelf space so my book buying has slowed dramatically, I need a new bookcase
