According to random googling, ‘ricing’ is the process of taking race cars and adding a bunch of aesthetics to make the car “cooler” or “look faster”, but actually doesn’t actually make the car faster.

I suspect the Japanese car tuner scene has something to do with the term - but I know nothing!

@Mr_Ecks It started as a derogatory term used by the Muscle Car (Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Camaro, etc…) community in the US to describe the cars used by the import tuner crowd. Especially after the first Fast and the Furious movie was released. Taking Japanese and Korean cars and tuning them to run faster, improve handling, etc… The “import tuner” crowd, have taken the term and turned it to mean what @GeekTea said. From my experience with that crowd when I lived in Japan, they actually look down on those who add stuff for aesthetics and not performance. The term may have come from a term used by fans of Harley Davidson motorcycles to describe Japanese performance motorcycles, “Rice Rocket”.

Yes, 2 years as an exchange student in Germany. 20 years in the Marine Corps. The last 5 of which were in Japan. The last 8 have been in Thailand.

I belive there is a typo here: It should be acpi_osi and not apci_osi, shouldn’t it? Might be useful to note for anoyne having the same problem.
Next issue: doing exactly what OP describes I am left with same result, black screen
