I can just paste as is, as one command?
Would not do the problems above after that?
Edit: I just added " /run/timeshift" in System Settings" as non indexed. I hope it’s ok? just like stressing the point not to index it.
That means baloo looked it up in the index, but didn’t found any information, which is OK, if that item is excluded, which should be normal for anything outside of your home folder.
You can see all available commands with balooctl --help. The important command for deleting the baloo index and start a reindexing is purge.
That’s a little bit more complicated. It was an issue in the past for me too, but didn’t happen lately (I assume fixed bugs in baloo or the search application utilizing baloo). But from the output you posted so far it seems that the index itself isn’t in order, so I would suggest a reindexing with purge.
This gives me hope…
I’ll run your command and leave the naughty Baloo do it’s work and see.
I’m worried it is something related to different DE as @ParanoidNemo said:
But I couldn’t find a way to start internet to make online install with KDE.
I will try now your command and leave it on it’s own for more than 12 hrs.
Just to update you before I put my laptop aside and let Baloo do its thing.
[limo@lenovo ~]$ balooctl disable; sleep 5; balooctl purge; sleep 5; balooctl enable;
Disabling and stopping the File Indexer
Stopping the File Indexer ................................. - done
Deleted the index database
Restarting the File Indexer
Baloo File Indexing has been disabled
Baloo File Indexing has been disabled
Enabling and starting the File Indexer
[limo@lenovo ~]$ balooctl status
Baloo Index could not be opened
[limo@lenovo ~]$ balooctl status
Baloo Index could not be opened
[limo@lenovo ~]$ balooctl monitor
Waiting for file indexer to start
Press Ctrl+C to stop monitoring
^C
[limo@lenovo ~]$
Sounds like a good strategy esp. with a HDD. But balooctl monitor or balooctl status shouldn’t take forever to create meaningful output. If nothing shows up there than that may indicate that there’s still a bigger issue at play.
Just to update you:
After reinstalling KDE Plasma (fresh/online, BTRFS) I still had same problems in my first post.
Reinstalled same but Ext4, everything is running perfect.
No duplicate search results, no “forgeting” and reindexing all the time.
Probably it is either BTRFS taking snapshots, or TimeShift snapshots, so Baloo reindex snapshots. I didn’t install TimeShift this time.
