Back to the Linux family

Hi all, wherever you are!

I was a Linux user quite some time ago, but due to life, being life, I stopped tinkering and using my personal PCs and only used my company issued machine.

Now, the time has come, and I bought myself a gaming desktop and laptop. Long story short, I don’t want to use Microsoft’s OS and started checking Linux distributions. I always used Antergos back then, so it is only natural to check EndeavourOS.

I am pleasantly surprised that the MSI with hybrid GPU is working great, and overall it feels as a smooth sail.

Also the forum, from what I have been reading, is a very nice, welcoming community!

PS. GNOME has come a long way, great Desktop Environment.

As soon as i read the message that kernel 6.x supported msi notebooks and such i deleted windows 11 directly from my MSI Crosshair 15-B12UGSZ machine and started to use Pop! OS again. I used that one for over 3 years on my older notebook but the newer MSI models where not supported by linux when i bought it. Now i am using Linux again for almost a year, 6 months on endeavour os

Endeavour is a good choice, Endeavour, Garuda and Cachy are the most interesting arch based distros at the moment.

They all have their pros and cons, I think endeavouros is probably the most reliable, cachy is the fastest, also most gaming oriented, and even the most convenient (a lot of aur packages have been moved to official cachy repos for instance), but i’ve definitely felt it’s a bit more shaky, weird bugs here nad there, things that worked fine on endeavour not working as expected on cachy.

Not sure where garuda falls, I haven’t tried it.

Welcome back to an os that isn’t out to get you

Mostly games like Skyrim, Watchdogs and No Man’s Sky. I want to try Cyberpunk 2077 too.

Any recommendations are welcome!

I tried CachyOS on a live USB and tried to install it to see how it performs as a daily driver, but when the installer crashed mid-installation I decided to turn to a more “reliable" distribution.

Moreover too many customizations on multiple levels. If the team behind CachyOS decides to stop developing it, you have to install a new system (or tinker it to go vanilla), too much hassle for my limited time sadly!

hey! Good to have you with us! Antergos was great wasn’t it? What was your first ever distro? Endeavour’s an absolute joy to use, and treated kindly, as solid as a rock! Enjoy the journey!
