Apfs on Arch/EOS

This seemed like the most appropriate area to ask an unusual question.

I know that Apple’s apfs file system can’t be accessed on Linux. The question I have is as follows…

I have an iPad Pro with a usb hub. If I attach my external drives (one apfs and one vfat), would I be able to transfer files from the apfs drive to the vfat drive?

FAT32 and exFAT should be fine if I am not totally out and fishing.

There seems to be a read-only FUSE driver for Linux:

Read-only won’t help. Gonna try to move files from an apfs external drive as I won’t be returning to a Mac or MacMini.

Mounting your APFS drive read-only in Linux should enable you to copy its content to another device for which you would of course need to have write access.

Or have I misunderstood what is exactly you are intending to do?

@pebcak, I think I just misunderstood “read-only”. I thought that meant I could watch, read or listen to files only. No copy, no move. If copy is an option, then that would indeed work for me.

I don’t have access to Apple/Mac devices so I couldn’t test but copying should basically work, I guess

You wouldn’t know unless you try, that is, if you want to.

apfs-fuse is listed here as well: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/FUSE
