Anyone else uses LTS kernel instead?

I don’t even notice much when playing games
linux-zen is of course a great addition to the repos, no criticism.

In many cases, you can tweak the default kernel to be closer to Zen-like behaviour.
The default kernel isn’t really optimised for servers either, it’s just a one-size-fits-all compromise with a little focus on desktop IMO.
I might provide a little tweaking guide for the default kernel some time in the future.

Personally I run Zen just because I can. Also it is in the normal repos, so it’s as easy as 1-2-3 to install it.

I like Zen! Zen feels good! :relieved:

Using the LTS kernel solved fixed the problem of dolphin mostly and mostly gimp sometimes freezing up for only 5 to 30 seconds but at times that behavior is annoying , LTS just works .

LTS here. In April, when got new system, was running Zen/TKG/mesa-aco, and that helped a lot, but now LTS and wine-staging plus looking forward to mesa 20.2 … system runs great on this setup (Ryzen 7, RX5700XT; Mate)

I do, Zen lately has not been my friend.

I use the latest lts as well. My system sometimes doesn’t poweroff. I never have found out whats the issue. It doesnt occurs when I use Win10, therefore I know it is a “linux only problem” but it seems to me that its works better with the lts kernel.

You know what they say! Well Zen … “I hang out with Lts then!”

I usually run LTS kernel. Did it on EOS. I removed the other. Had a problem with some network driver when I did. 81 something! I removed it too

I’ll be installing it on an ‘older’ (read ‘ancient’) laptop as a kernel update to 5.8.12 just took it down

It doesn’t get used much anyway - so LTS is a better choice for it. especially with old hardware. The newest kernel features do nothing for it anyway!

I actually use Linux-Mainline 5.9.0-rc7-1-mainline, but have Linux and linux-lts installed.

I haven’t had any apparent issues doing so, been on mainline since Linux was still 5.7.

I used to do the same on Mint. I would always update the kernels as soon as they came out. Never had a problem ever.

Always use the mainline Kernel

When I was new to Linux I used the LTS. Custom kernels where a unknown to me and felt scary.

But eventually I dipped my toe into it since I needed a custom kernel for the fsync patchset which helps with gaming.

I used linux-tkds-pds for a while until I switched to EndeavourOS. At first the kernel did not work on my setup, and now it does but I do get random system freezes.

I now use linux-zen which, like the earlier mentioned kernel, also has the fsync patchset and some other tweaks and that one works stable.

Don’t notice any difference that are noticeable other then the better gaming performance with fsync.
