Netflix going way to far?
Who else will follow suite? This is scary crap. Personally think this should be illegal.
Wow, excellent idea for a use of the cameras on many smart TVs (I don’t have a camera on a computing device in the house)!
If it is allowed corporation will do it. There’s always the chance Americans will vote for stricter privacy laws. Let’s see where it goes.
I don’t see any upside; quite the opposite.
This is one of many reasons i want to build a plex or jellyfin server, Because yuck ![]()
To answer the question tho yes they have been way over the line for a minute
To be fair: This is related to the terms of service for visitors of the “Netflix Houses”. Which are new event venues that host Escape Rooms (Stranger Thinks themed) as well as Squid Game trials besides dining and such.
It’s not related to the whole Netflix as an App / media streaming platform and the terms of service related to the streaming platform.
If these terms of service, in which the user essentially grants Netflix the right to use the name and images of him during his stay at the venue for whatever purpose, without diving into that specific rabbit hole in detail, it might be an over exaggeration that they’ll train some AI model, as some may conspire some evil conspiracy theory. Eventually its just Netflix to establish their IP in the physical world and to attract visitors in the very same manner Disney created Disney world. That alone is quite a tough business.
Well, and you know… a little controversy related to the terms of service of the place and it’s offering… even bad PR is still PR to spread the word that those places exist nowadays. Which doesn’t mean that I’m justifying any TOS shenanigans at all, if you don’t agree with their terms. Don’t visit those venues.
as the 1% of the global population who actually reads every and all TOS/Privacy Policy all the way til the end…I’m a member of almost nothing and I’m OK with that.
The Dude Cannot abide at what you accurately call “shenanigans.” Almost no proprietary software in my life at all and little to no corporate affiliation/memberships. EDIT: this is not a political stance I’m just a person who like to minimize headaches..
I’m immensely happy this way

Here in America, it’s the reverse. A corporation will do anything it wants to until it is regulated, and will continue to the things if the cost of penalties are less than the profits earned.
I don’t live in USA, (or any mass surveillance country) but I put a black strip on tape on my TV’s camera and over mic and will do the same for any new TV.
