Wow…good thing linux is still available for long term/time support. Sucks to be a windows user ![]()
There is a small update in this case.
Statement from AMD:
"We’ve heard your feedback and want to clear up the confusion around the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.10.2 driver release.
This update introduces two optimized driver paths: one for RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 (Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 series), and one for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 (Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 series).
Here’s What this Means for You:
This is not the end of support for RDNA 1 and RDNA 2. Your Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 series GPUs will continue to receive:
Game support for new releases
Stability and game optimizations
Security and bug fixes
The difference is that these products now benefit from a dedicated, stable driver branch, one built on years of tuning and optimization. This approach helps deliver a smoother, more consistent experience for your games while insulating previous generation GPUs from rapid changes designed for newer architectures.
Why We’re Doing This:
Our goal is simple: to give every Radeon gamer the best experience possible. By separating the code paths, our engineers can move faster with new features for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4, while keeping RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 stable and optimized for current and future games.
Our Commitment:
We’ve supported Radeon gamers for generations and that commitment isn’t changing. Whether you’re gaming on an RX 5000, RX 6000, or the latest RX 9000, you’ll continue to get the reliability, performance, and care you expect from AMD. Because we’re all part of the same gaming community and every Radeon gamer matters."

I’ve been using a Vega APU(5700g) for years now and it just kept getting better.
This is totally unconvincing. It seems highly unlikely they are going to update the maintenance drivers with same frequency as the newer drivers.
This is the whole reason they are splitting the drivers in the first place.
They are just pumping out meaningless drivel to try to appease the consumers who are frustrated with this decision without actually committing to anything meaningful.
Even though I am not affected myself, at least not yet, the whole thing is anything but positive, and I don’t understand how, after several years, such a widespread series can simply be treated so poorly.
For me as an end user, this really raises questions about how long my current AMD graphics card will be supported if I buy another one. Sure, we’re better off with Linux, but still, something like this just can’t be right.
When even Nvidia supports its products better and, above all, for longer, it doesn’t reflect well on AMD.
We’ll see how things turn out, but either way, it’s currently rather negative, at least for me.

Oh we weren’t confused, AMD, you literally said you were ceasing game-ready driver support..
I’m on a 6700XT coupled with a 7800x3d, and it absolutely flies on 1440p, no intention of letting this one go for at least the next four or five years. If the open source drivers continue to do what they’re scoped out to, - we’re good.
As improvements in computer hardware are saturating and approaching limits, hardware companies are imposing artificial limits on software and support to force consumers to buy more from them.
I had forgotten i do also have an RX6750 XT in this desktop. My other desktop has the RX590 which is quite a bit older.
Something similar happened to me too. I forgot about the RX 5700 XT that I have in my closet as a spare graphics card (in its original packaging). I had this in my PC before the RX 7900 XTX.
