I read about this in the December 2025 issue of Linux magazine. Following is a post on the It’s FOSS News site:
Linux user need to boycott Amazon and their Fire TV’s cause they plan to make sure you can no longer sideload apps.
Same as Google ironically ![]()
I think that depends on country. Here we still can sideload on Android.
Yes but thy are changing in future versions.
I can guarantee you that’s not happening cause those of us with Android phones will not tolerate it, so they will be forced to Google TV Stream the same.
No it’s because of evil corporations!

On such topics..
Nothing wrong on calling Amozon “evil company” from what i can see?
But simply be inclusive, try not offending others and discuss with an open mind.
What i understand from the linked article is that amazon is in the need to seperate dependency from google, thats understandable.
Securing a proprietary device against changes by third parties is common practice i bet.
I also can see there will be a way to hack that sooner or later with free and open source tools.
Yes please include ALL evil companies. Yes I know that’s a long long long long long list but it’s only fair. ![]()
users.. and companies okay but also not to hard.. may some infrastructure from EndeavourOS is also relaying on Amazon services.. i am sure GitHub uses their stuff per example ![]()
